Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 5–8

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

It's not clear whether violence is really meant to be the answer here. George does plenty of clubbing and fighting in defense of smaller animals -- he never hurts anyone, but he certainly never faces any repercussions, either.
  • Violence & scariness:

Sure, jungle life is dog-eat-dog, but here it's taken to extremes -- bananas as weapons, vicious attack pandas, a main character whose default reaction to anything is to club it first and ask questions later. It's all cartoonish, but it's not particularly funny.
  • Sexy stuff:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

The phrase "kick butt" is used at least once.
  • Consumerism:

George is a familiar brand thanks to past TV and movie iterations.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About George of the Jungle

Parents need to know that this flashy, rapid-scene-changing cartoon isn't the best fit for very young children, who may be disoriented by the swiftly moving backgrounds and won't be able to follow the story. The show also includes plenty of consequence-free cartoon violence (clubbing, fighting) and gross-out potty humor on a junior level -- nose picking, butt slapping, toe licking (of George's own toes; it's silly, not sexual) -- without much in the way of redeeming qualities or positive lessons.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about why TV networks would want to remake classic cartoons. Is there an advantage to updating an old title over taking a chance on something new? If so, what? Kids: If you've seen the old George of the Jungle cartoons, too, which do you like better -- and why?

    My concerns are:
    • Negative message
    • Negative role models

    Really stupid show

This is one of the stupidest shows ever. It is the perfect example of why you should not let cartoon channels get ahold of your movies: they will turn it into garbage like this. This show has some of the most cliched jokes ever (i.e. tons of potty humor, people smashing into stuff, stinky people) and I believe I lost several thousand brain cells while watching. If you do not want to be shipped away to a mental hospital, do yourself a favor and DO NOT watch this idiotic excuse for a show.

    This show is rated TV-Y7

Listen to the rating on top. This is not TV-G. Example: Once they said something like, so if we say think you, something bad happends to us. Have common sense commonsense media. This is a bad influence for younger children

    Epic Fail.

I'm not sure of what the other kids my age think, but this show is horrible, and annoying. Sure, it stars cute animals working harmoniously to achieve a common goal while teaching lessons everyone already knows, but...don't we have enough of those shows? To think this piece of grade A garbage replaced My Gym Partner is a Monkey. Take it from me, parents. This show fails in every way.
