What Parents Need to Know

This review of Groomer Has It was written by Emily Ashby

Parents need to know that the participants in this reality show are highly competitive and often insult their peers -- on both the personal and professional level. Judges, too, can be harsh in their criticism of the groomers' work, which leaves some contestants in tears or prompts them to make rude remarks in return. All of that said, this series has the drama and tension of reality shows without a lot of the other iffy stuff, so it's an age-appropriate choice for families with tweens.

More on Groomer Has It

What’s the Story?

Reality TV goes to the dogs in Animal Planet's series GROOMER HAS IT, which centers on a competition among 12 of the country's top canine stylists. Each week, the groomers face a new challenge that tests both their clipper skills and their creative vision, with three industry professionals offering feedback and eliminating the least-impressive contestant. At the end of the competition, the final stylist will win the Groomer of the Year title, as well as a new mobile pet salon and a cash prize.

Is It Any Good?

For reality-savvy viewers, there's not much content here likely to raise eyebrows. While it's predictably heavy on interpersonal drama and emotions (this is reality TV, after all), at least there's no sex or blatant commercialism for parents to worry about. Regular viewers may tire of the host's overuse of canine clichés like "put your tail between your legs" and "every dog has its day," but overall the series is an age-appropriate choice for families with older kids and tweens -- and with dogs of all shapes and sizes getting glamorous makeovers, there's plenty to smile about as well.

    The "Clip n Dip"

I enjoyed watching this new show. I do believe the wrong person was eliminated, but that's just my opinion. I also agree you made the right decision with the first winner from last night. For the three hours they had in grooming a stuffed dog, his was the best. Jonathon looks as though he has the gift of grooming. Not to say the rest don't, I just believe he's just a paw ahead at the moment.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!

I HAVE BEEN A GROOMER FOR 15 YEARS, THE SHOW SAYS THESE ARE THE BEST GROOMERS IN AMERICA. MOST OF THE GROOMERS ARE AN EMBARASSMENT TO THE GROOMING INDUSTRY. AS I WATCH THE SHOW I AM HUMILIATED THAT SOME OF THESE GROOMERS REPRESENT US. GET REAL!

This show is so great. :)

I really like it, it's very entertaining. I especially love Artist; I think he deserves to win. If Artist doesn't win it better be Kathleen or Jasper; I cannot STAND Jonathan or Jorge (pronounved Hor-hay). >:( The language can be an issue; one time someone said b----, and they didn't bleep it... whenever they swear they will bleep it, except in a few instances. I don't think these are the best groomers in the country (except Artist), but they are good. :) Overall this show is great. :D
