What’s the Story?

Reviewed by Emily Ashby

Reality TV goes to the dogs in Animal Planet's series GROOMER HAS IT, which centers on a competition among 12 of the country's top canine stylists. Each week, the groomers face a new challenge that tests both their clipper skills and their creative vision, with three industry professionals offering feedback and eliminating the least-impressive contestant. At the end of the competition, the final stylist will win the Groomer of the Year title, as well as a new mobile pet salon and a cash prize.

Is It Any Good?

For reality-savvy viewers, there's not much content here likely to raise eyebrows. While it's predictably heavy on interpersonal drama and emotions (this is reality TV, after all), at least there's no sex or blatant commercialism for parents to worry about. Regular viewers may tire of the host's overuse of canine clichés like "put your tail between your legs" and "every dog has its day," but overall the series is an age-appropriate choice for families with older kids and tweens -- and with dogs of all shapes and sizes getting glamorous makeovers, there's plenty to smile about as well.
