Krypto the Superdog
What’s the Story?
In this animated series, Superman's dog Krypto (voiced by Sam Vincent) strikes out on his own. Joined by new friends Streaky (Brian Drummond) the super-cat, Ace the Bat-Hound (Scott McNeil) and others, Krypto battles villains in and around Metropolis. Krypto, who shares most of his former owner's powers, lives in a suburban neighborhood with a 9-year-old boy named Kevin (Alberto Ghisi). The villains he faces are only as scary as adorable kitten Snooky Wookums (Nicole Bouma) -- who turns out to be more than he initially appears. Other baddies include the pets of DC villains like the Joker and Lex Luthor.
Is It Any Good?
Krypto is a great cartoon for younger viewers. The animation is crisp and vibrant, with bright colors and lots of fun sound effects. Plots center on innocent events like the theft of a boatload of crackers by a parrot pirate and the arrival of a collective of intergalactic dogs who come to Earth to prevent a cat takeover.
Characters work together to solve problems and frequently help each other out in times of distress. The jokes are funny and clever, so parents can watch with kids and not get bored. Episodes are split into two stories per half-hour, so even kids with shorter attention spans can follow the plots. All in all, this is good family fun.
