Why We Rated This on for Ages 5 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

There's always a message in VeggieTales productions -- they're all about the moral, and its usually offered in its original proverbial form as well as embedded (none-too-subtly) in the action.

What to watch out for

  • Violence & scariness:

This iteration of VeggieTales isn't violence free: Characters sometimes use one another as punching bags, cause car accidents, or perpetrate a very mild version of action-show violence.
  • Sexy stuff:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

You can certainly buy VeggieTales merchandise, but the programs are the main event.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About VeggieTales Presents: LarryBoy Adventures

Parents need to know that there are two versions of VeggieTales' LarryBoy Adventures: Those available on DVD, in which the moral is openly based on the Bible, and those offered in this TV series, in which the moral may be the same, but its biblical origins are less obvious. The morals themselves are hard to argue with, no matter what your religious bent.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about how the show's proverbs and homilies are limited by the adventure story. Of course it's better not to put down others just to build yourself up -- but isn't it even better not to put down others, period? There's nothing wrong with the morals the series presents, but life is sometimes a little more complex than the episodes' black-and-white rules would suggest. Kids, is it always easy to follow rules? Why or why not? On a lighter note, kids will enjoy thinking about how the veggie characters function without arms or legs.

    Wonderful Show

This show is appealing for kids 7 and younger. Larryboy is a Christian show that teaches lessons about how to love one another, being humble, etc., while still keeping the viewer's interest. It does have some violence in it, so if you have a child that's scared of violence and/or is not permitted to watch violent shows, it's not for them. The violence is mild, like maybe a slap, or something, but overall, kids will be laughing at the humor that's put into every show.

    Very good

This is a godly show. It teaches everyone about the Lord and is similar to VeggieTales, but 2D. We watch it at our grandmother's house.
