What’s the Story?

Reviewed by Ellie Gettinger

The action in LIZZIE MCGUIRE follows the title character and her two best friends, Gordo and Miranda, as they navigate the treacherous territory of junior high. The three are pretty supportive of one another and help one another out of silly and (emotionally) painful scenarios. Despite disagreements, they always end up coming to the aid of their friends. Added to the ensemble are the usual suspects for a live-action kids' show. Lizzie's parents provide perspective as episodes come to a close, but much of their energy is focused on Lizzie's bratty younger brother Matt.

Is It Any Good?

4

The Lizzie McGuire depiction of friendship is fairly realistic and very positive. Within the narrative of the show and through a plot device that allows viewers to hear what Lizzie is thinking, the audience gets a good picture of what it means to grow up for both boys and girls.

While the Disney Channel shows no signs of taking Lizzie McGuire off the air, the show is coming to an end after star Hilary Duff refused Disney's offer. The fifteen-year-old star will not be growing up with the show, which may disappoint many tweens. As the show still airs at least seven times a week, your kid will know Lizzie age 12 to 14 very well.
