Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 14–18

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

As the three male leads try to figure out women, stereotypical gender roles are discussed and sometimes debunked. On the other hand, at least one character is constantly objectifying women and angling to get them into bed asap.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

One character's goal is to get women in bed as soon as possible, and the show's dialogue is often filled with sexual innuendo.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

    Harp beer is sipped.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

The guys kick back with beers, and much of the show occurs inside a bar owned by one of the male leads.

What Parents Need to Know

About Modern Men

Parents need to know that this so-so comedy is rife with sexual innuendo. And while the show's theme is about helping men demystify and better relate to women, one character objectifies and uses women on a near-daily basis.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about what to expect when you're dating someone. How should you treat that person? Why is it important to communicate? Are men and women really as different as pop culture would lead us to believe? In what ways? Do the show's characters reflect a realistic range of behaviors and attitudes about the "battle of the sexes"?

    another good show for spring

This spring there has been quite a few new shows that have been good: Four kings, The Loop, Free Ride, and now Modern Men. The only episode i've seen ( and probably the only one shown) was fairly clever and funny and id say directed to a late teen - early adult audience, id give it 4 stars
