Common Sense Note
If the actors were robots, then their fuel was alcohol. I don't think there has ever been a show with more drinking. Unlike some teen shows set in high schools that push the envelope, this just leaves the envelope behind -- it's a cross between a soap opera and everyone behaving badly. This show should not be watched by kids. The behavior is bad enough -- a lying evil father, a stalker ex-boyfriend, a back-stabbing woman -- (sort of Dallas on steroids) but the alcohol consumption alone knocks this show out of the box.
If your kids do watch the show, talk to them about the drinking, drinking, drinking.

Following in the footsteps of what Fox did with The O.C., NORTH SHORE premiered in the summer, but the show itself won't start officially until September 6 at 8PM. This is not a kid's show but an adult soap opera that must be sponsored by the alcoholic beverage association. There isn't a single scene where people aren't in bed or on a surf board that doesn't include alcohol. It's kind of mind boggling.
Otherwise, there is nothing new or interesting in this predictable show that has some Romeo and Juliet aspects (mean, evil, controlling, mega-mogul Dad tries to keep only lovely daughter (Nicole) away from the good and hunky hero (Jason) who is set to inherit the throne of mean Daddy's rival hotelier).
There is the back-stabbing jealous rival (Tessa), the sweet waitress (MJ), her psycho stalker ex boyfriend, and of course the understanding doll of a bartender named Frankie (in this show you expected the really compassionate guy to be anything else?), whom we predict will be the real draw for teenagers.
To top it all off, there is corporate rivalry and intrigue, fist fights, sex and, did we mention drinking? Oh, and just to justify the bikinis and gravity-defying bods, a few surf shots that are really good. After all, the North Shore refers to Hawaii, not Long Island.
At 10 o'clock, we wouldn't bother even mentioning this show as it's such a two dimensional affair, but with all the drinking in this show (and studies show that kids are influenced profoundly by seeing drinking on the big screen) we have to give it a red because of its 8 o'clock air time. Fox doesn't care a bit about our kids. Hey, this way it can sell more beer.
