What’s the Story?

RICHIE RICH, the animated series based on the Richie Rich: The Poor Little Rich Boy series of comic books, explores the life of the richest boy in the world. Even though Richie Rich (voiced by Katie Leigh in this incarnation, which originally aired in 1996) owns at least two of everything imaginable, companionship is a constant void in his life. His most frequent companions are his girlfriend, Gloria (Jeannie Elias); his dog, Dollar (Pat Fraley); and the Rich family butler, Cadbury (Martin Jarvis). Despite Richie's wealth, this tween trillionaire puts forth an enormous effort to be kind to others. Whether he's trying to save Dollar from a pesky ant or going out of his way to help a client, Richie's ego is surely a lot smaller than his bank account.

Is It Any Good?

Most episodes revolve around a greedy antagonist looking to trick Richie out of his fortune, but in this series, the rival never wins -- proving to kids that greed, not money, is more often the root of bad behavior. The only thing parents might want to watch out for is occasional slight tobacco use by a guest character, typically a fellow socialite visiting Richie's dad at the Rich mansion. But parents can use him as an example to show kids that success and narcissism don't necessarily go hand in hand.
