Teen Titans
What’s the Story?
TEEN TITANS combines Japanese manga-style graphics with old-school Marvel Comics superheroes. The madcap pace of the comic moments combined with the interesting character quirks of the superheroes can be entertaining. On the other hand, these teens didn't get together to bond as friends -- they came to fight. And fight they do. Questions of honor, loyalty, friendship, strength, and capacity pop up in each episode. However, each episode also sees a member kidnapped, coerced, ridiculed, or tortured by "evil" forces.
Is It Any Good?
Though the male characters dominate the show, the female characters can be equally powerful. They bond with their male comrades in platonic relationships, which puts them on equal footing. Yet if it takes full-out war to bring females on par with men, then perhaps this equality is not worth the consequences. Teen Titans is seductive because it looks so awesome, but, frankly, there's so much violence that parents might think twice about letting it into the home on a regular basis -- if at all.
