Cops fight demons in bloody anime best for teens.

Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 15–18

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Typical good vs. evil comics stuff. Characters have complex motives, and their actions aren't always straighforward.
  • Violence:

Lots of dramatic sword fighting, shooting, and bloody massacres. People die horrible, bloody deaths, including being shot through the head. Gross little demon-worms attack people and turn them into monsters.
  • Sex:

Some female characters wear revealing clothing, including one whose breasts are barely hidden. References to being "pent up" and needing to meet a woman.
  • Language:

Some uses of "hell" and "damn."
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Some wine in background of a dinner scene.

What Parents Need to Know

About Tokko

Parents need to know that this anime series can be extremely violent. The police fight scary demons by decapitating them with gigantic swords, which they wield in slow-motion displays that show off the resulting blood splatters. Gross, worm-like monsters attack humans and turn them into dangerous demons. Female characters sometimes wear revealing outfits; one policewoman seems to be topless aside from a jacket that barely covers her breasts. There are also some adult relationship dynamics, including jealousy and arguing.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the recurring themes in anime series. Why do you think so many tend to deal with demons, monsters, or other sci-fi and fantasy creatures? Why are people drawn to monster stories in the first place? What purpose do they serve in our culture? What are the most memorable monsters from television, film, and/or comics?
