Parents need to know

Parents need to know that this comedy has many references to sex. One character's promiscuous behavior is played for laughs, and episodes have implied oral sex. There are jokes about "boobs" and "poop"; characters call each other names like "assface." The women in this show are often portrayed as controlling, confused, or desperate. There are also jokes about a woman questioning her sexual orientation. The nephew often engages in sarcastic exchanges with his uncle.

Families can talk about the show's Odd Couple-like arrangement. Would the show be better if it didn't rely on such clear-cut stereotypes? Why do most situation comedies rely on such predictable formulas? They could also talk about the portrayal of women here. Given the behavior and attitudes of his father and uncle, how must Jake, the young boy, view women?

What's the story?

Reviewed by Pam Gelman

Charlie Sheen is Charlie, a successful, single male living in Malibu, and constantly on the prowl for a female "catch." His brother Alan (Jon Cryer), is Charlie's nervous, uptight, and nerdy brother. Going through a divorce, Alan and his tween son, Jake, moves in with Charlie, making it TWO AND A HALF MEN.

Is it any good?

1

It's an Odd Couple in the today's world -- single dad, self-involved bachelor brother/uncle, and precocious kid. Add to that a soon-to-be ex-wife questioning her sexuality, an overtly-emotional mother, and a stalkeresque neighbor, and you've got a real nut house packed into thirty minutes. With Mel Brooks' pen it might work, but instead, it falls into the sitcom trap of predictable story lines about boy chasing girl and jokes about "boobs" and "poop."

In one episode, both Charlie and Jake share a crush on the same ballet teacher. Charlie bribes Jake into enrolling in a ballet class. Jakes takes a look at her chest and learns to plié. The teacher thinks Jake is cute and soon after, the affection rubs off on Uncle Charlie. He gets his date with this dream girl and is even propositioned, but then realizes that he must honor the male code and forego her proposition. Maybe the creators were hoping for the same kind of success as Full House, with its take on single parenthood. There are many more ways to fill a half hour with your kids -- don't waste your or their time with this.

This is why the V-Chip was invented

This show uses humor to promote behaviour that is dangerous to anyone who pursues this lifestyle. It rarely speaks seriously to the consequences of Charlie's actions; unwanted pregnancies, STDs including AIDS, mental health issues. There is no sign of regret in Charlie's character. The fact that a child has grown up on this show is frightening in that many will think this is a show that is appropriate for kids. Many stations are showing this program in reruns during the dinner hour. Frankly even the commercials for this show are unacceptable for kids.

Funny Funny!

An Awesome show MUST WATCH!!!! Truly you won't get the jokes if your 9 and under but anything higher and its funny! Theres nothing they in the show kids don't hear in school. Also The commen sense people are way over rated its the best show on TV. What i don't get is that parents let there kids watch south park or robot chicken but don't let them watch 2 and half men.

Mindless comedy at its best...funny sitcom!

If you're looking for a quick laugh on a Monday night ("uh, the workweek is starting again!"), then turn to this show. Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer blend together as The Odd Couple of today like salt blends with pepper. Be warned parents, the show is pretty explicit when it comes to drugs and sex, but there is no nudity shown EVER. The kid in the show's bizzare and random jokes add even more!

Funny.. Lots of adult humor... not for kids

I enjoy this show and it's one of the few shows my husband and I watch together, but the kids are not arround. Charlie;s, (main character)main goal in life is to get laid by beautiful women. He's also constantly drinking. His nephew frequently visits and is dumb. These are not the messages we should be sending young people.

this show is great

I'm 13 and I watch it all the time and I think it's hilarious. My mom watches it too and we don't really find it bad. It's not really for younger kids because they won't understand the humor used in the show.
