Why We Rated This on for Ages 6 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

Families have to work together to win, and the rules are set up so that the whole family can play. That said, there's a bit of game show greed, and the games rules allow families to "steal" prizes from competitors, which might strike some kids as unfair.

What to watch out for

  • Violence & scariness:

    Not an issue.
  • Sexy stuff:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

Trivia questions deal with popular culture, and products and services are part of that. (Though when a category like "Ad Slogans," comes up, you have to wonder a bit...)
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Your Place or Mine?

Parents need to know that apart from a few very subtle product-oriented questions, this family-oriented game show is about as harmless as television gets. The only part that might strike kids as unfair is the show's twist on the "Yankee swap" gift exchange game -- when a family wins a round, they can either stick with their prize or take the competing family's prize. But, really, this is tame stuff.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about where game shows get their prizes. How does it benefit a company to have their product as a prize? In what other ways can products be promoted on shows? Does seeing or hearing about a product on a game show make you want it more? Why or why not?
