Parents need to know that this dating reality show pits older and younger women against each other for a man's attention. The two groups are particularly harsh in their criticisms of each other (for example, one younger woman refers to the older women as "wrinkled," with "saggy boobs"). There's some discussion of sex, especially as it relates to age. There's a strong focus on physical attractiveness. Some language ("bitch," "hell," etc.) and social drinking.
Positive messages:The show's format -- in which women compete against each other for a man's attention and treat each other poorly in the process -- is based on an underlying sexism. Older women are called "cougars," and younger women are called "kittens," further perpetuating their sexualized, animalized, minimized status. The women don't help matters, criticizing each other and referring to each other in demeaning ways.
WHY NBC WHY! Honestly I actually couldn't wait to see another show that I could go to bed and think, "Wow this is funny but thank god I'm not them!" Well the show isn't funny and I thoughtit is so fake. Then, they give an image that says the 20 years olds are a bunch of spoiled brats and the 40 year olds think that they are above everyone else! Anyway if he picks a 20 year old then everyone will think "wow how shallow!" and if he picks a 40 year old then it will be "Oh he just wants a good image!" This is just a review but I know I need to speak my mind if every second I either shuddered or rolled my eyes at every word the contestants said.
This show peeked my curiosity as I am a 40 year old woman. The problem with this show is that it it is very predictable and a huge STEREOTYPE. Despite the compliements that the bachelor eloquently makes about the older women, it is obvious that like most men his age that he is into the superficiality of looks, boobs and fun! I was disgusted with the comments that the 20 year olds were making about the 40 year olds and vice versa.
It is obvious 1) that the the producers did not select the most intelligent 20 something woman or 2) the most attractive 40 somthing women. When I was in my 20's my peer group consisted of driven, very successful, motivated career women ( accountants, engineers, teachers, residents in medical programs etc.)The 20 something and the 40 somethingers seem like proverbial bimbos. As with most dating shows, the show itself is it and the contestants don't remain together, have no solidifying relationships...just people eager to break into the business are panting for attention.
