I don't even think the person who's seen it has seen enough.
First off, I recognize this review was made three years ago when The Boondocks first took off with Season 1. But since the second season has been finished, this should be updated. Nothing has changed in terms of quality. The Boondocks is wonderful in animation, plot, voice cast, wit and most big things that make up a good show. Language is just as shocking to the sensitive as well, including the use of the word 'N**ger'. However, sexual content has rocketed a bit. There is sex shown, although very chaste, and scenes at strip clubs. Commercialism (which isn't a big deal to me, but might be to others) is pretty big, too, but that might not be anything to worry about. The two episodes I am directing towards that point brutally at BET are banned for...well, nobody knows why, but it's only on the Season 2 DVD set. Overall, The Boondocks is a highly offensive, but absolutely wonderful show. It shouldn't be shown to the sensitive and should be off limits to ANYBODY that can't handle it. That includes every kid under 11, and most under 16. I shouldn't even be watching it at 12 years old, but I'm part of the minority that can watch this without making a negative impact on anybody. If you can truly do that, you can watch this brilliant, brilliant show.

Edgy, Smart, Intelligent Satire; For Mature (and Socially-Aware) Viewers
The Boondocks is a sharp, biting, culturally-relevant satire following the exploits of young, socially-aware Freedom Fighter Huey Freeman (he reminds me of myself a bit), and wannabe gangsta rapper Riley Freeman, as well as their clueless Granddad and "Uncle Tom" caricature, Uncle Remus. The humor on the series is dark, cynical, edgy, and in-your-face. There are no holds barred; episodes have dealt with child labor, pedophilia (R. Kelly trial), racism, exploitation, prison rape, gang violence, and several other hot-button issues - all seen through the eyes of jaded 10-year-old Huey Freeman. Strong language is used constantly, especially "the N-word", which Aaron McGruder includes on the show to give it a more "signature" feel, since many blacks use the word in their day-to-day vocabulary. The humor on this series will not be appreciated by those who tend to shy away from serious issues, but, for those who like their comedy extra-intelligent, super-witty, and ultra-dark, The Boondocks is a modern classic, and easily one of the best animated series ever produced for American television. Rednecks and soccer moms should look elsewhere. And remember: "We could all be reading a book right now."

There's a lot of n-words but if you can get past that then there isn't much to worry about. But it still isn't that funny, anyway, at least to a 11 year old.

Sharp, Witty, Offensive, and funny.
This show has won a Peabody Award. this show is also one of the better tv shows, due to it being an excellent sattire on the stereotypical "gangsta" and african american pop culture, be it a drunk rapper rapping during the MTV music awards our how he beat up his agent the night before, and due to him being a suspect, getting arrested. The profanity is strong and the satire is extremely sharp and, to a point, offensive, this mainly comes from the character "Uncle Ruckus" an elderly black man with a bulging eye, whom is not only self loathing but a white supremacist himself. I would watch the first episode with your son or daughter before you give the approval.

Very Adult, but enjoyable to teenagers
Even though I'm 13, this is one of my favorite shows. HOWEVER, for most children my age, I wouldn't recommend it. The show has violence in almost every episode, as well as a constant adult theme. The worst is the swearing, which happens frequently, most specifically the 'N' word, which remains uncensored. This word is not used as a derogatory term by the characters, except for one. It is used in day to day life by them, as simple as 'bro', 'punk', or 'dude' would be used. The show has messages about consumerism and mass media, however, and delivers with almost every episode. It's very deep and emotional in some episodes, and hilarious at the same time. I'd say it's for mostly teens or adults who like this type of humor, or possibly younger kids like me who are used to these jokes and messages by now.

Don't Take Anyone's Word for It
What can be said that hasn't already been said? ... Well, pretty much everything. The Boondocks is an amazingly animated show that tackles real-life issues, really makes you think, is stunningly well-animated, and, despite seeming outrightly ridiculous from time to time, can be incredibly realistic. But to get to all this quality, you really have to look deep, straight past the show's copious helpings of violence, suggestive theme, and vulgarity; a task, it seems, that many younger kids just aren't capable of. (No offense to younger kids who happen to be more sophisticated; it seems, though, that a vastly higher percentage of the preteen demographic will look no further than a simple explicit word or reference to the genitalia.) For those that are older, though, The Boondocks can even be described as stimulating. It takes on issues that really do plague us, including many that seem to be purely fantasy. (I, for one, was taken aback by the show's apparent racism when I first saw it, my mindset being "What freaking place does this kind of racism have in the 21st century?" Nevertheless, I'm noticing it more and more in our society...) Basically, then, it really makes you ask questions about yourself and the world around you. But questioning society ain't no crystal stair. Like I mentioned before, The Boondocks is filled to the brim with a ridiculous amount of innuendo, explicit language, and violence; simply too much for children to handle(not to mention the fact that it really could negatively affect your kid--hey, don't blame me when you get a call from school informing you that your "precious little child" got sent to the office for calling his friend a n:-)ga.), and it really takes someone mature to determine an episode's moral. Having mentioned it, I should note that you simply can't put an age on maturity: many children even under the age of 13 could probably handle The Boondocks, while even college students and adults wouldn't be able to. So, before seeing that I personally rated this show 16 & up and instantly letting your 16-year-old watch it, you need to really know your kid. "But of course I know my child! How couldn't I?" Just last week, a 13-year-old girl committed suicide due to bullying. Everyone, even her parents, thought she was doing fine. REALLY, TRULY, THOROUGLY KNOW YOUR KID. I can't stress that enough. But enough about you. Let's talk about some of the other people who also reviewed The Boondocks: You can't just look at any one review for The Boondocks and instantly assume it's 110% accurate; many of them are incredibly deceiving and incompetent. Upon checking out "parent reviews" of the show, I realize that users such as Inuyashafanforlife, ilikecats,1 Resaluve, and ilovegore97 clearly aren't parents. Many others gave a review in less than 25 words, giving an extremely one-sided, biased review of The Boondocks that doesn't show it for what it is. And let's not overlook inaccuracies. Even this site's review for the show isn't fully correct. It makes no reference to the fact that there is copious violence and fighting(not just references): for example, the finale of Season 3 vividly depicts a man getting shot clear through the head. "Nothing explicit" is anything but representative of The Boondocks: there are countless cases in which the male genitals can be seen without any sort of censorship. And I can also guarantee that, having watched the first season, I haven't heard a single bleeped-out word; they're all right there for anyone to hear. (On top of that, the Season 1 intro features main character Riley using his middle finger) So what point am I trying to make? The Boondocks is great, and very deep for those who want to watch it thoroughly. However, it's certainly not appropriate for young children, and the only way to determine whether or not it's appropriate for your kid is to watch it yourself.

Really great show
This show is obviously for mature audiences. Although i'm 16 and love it, I would NOT recommended for children. Reasons: Excessive use of profanity, like the n word, violence, and humor only older people will get. I first watched this when I was ten, didn't get it, watched it 6 years later, got, it loved, recommended it. though while this show is not for children, it is also not for the ignorant minded, it's a show that while comedic, talks about serious issues through the eyes of a paranoid genius 10-year-old child. And while he is only ten, the show is also for politically aware and socially aware being. not for people with sticks up there butt

For mature & smart 10+
Guys, seriously. This is the most hilarious show I have seen in a while, people! It is not racist or bad at all! Although, I think mature and smart 10 year olds like me and over should be watching this because if you're not mature enough to watch this then you would think it is making fun out of black people, it is offensive and racist. I think this is the best television show ever. Look parents, if you do not want you're child to be watching this then fine, i'm not saying they HAVE to. This show uses the " n word" alot but it doesn't mean its offensive people! But I do have to admit, the two episodes, " The Hunger Strike " and " Uncle Ruckus Reality Show " got banned for racism and mocking BET, and I really hated those two episodes. And plus, the sexual content is a bit you know, they once showed a naked woman asking Grandad for a drink or food I forgot and then she walked off and you could see her breast and her vagina. That episode I actually fast forward it, but there is to be honest, not that much disgusting nudity in The Boondocks. And the violence is not too bad but has blood alot. Especially in the episode, " Stinkmeaner: The blah blah blah blah ( or whatever its spelt ) " When they chopped off a man's head, blood came out everywhere.
