Chowder is a always-hungry food enthusiast who apprentaces under a kind master chef. This show is a favorite in my house. Potty humor may be sprinkled throuought the cartoon, but what cartoon dosent have potty humor? I think the show is tame enough for small children to watch. My children (4,9) watch it all the time, and sometimes you can find me watching it too.
I hate this cartoon...Along with Fan Boy and Chum Chum..I've gotten to the point of putting a parental block on Cartoon Network. It's getting to the point of I don't like more of the shows I do like.
Chowder is awesome. It's a funny cartoon that is by far ten times better than the garbage that is on television for children now. I recomend it because there is NO foul language, funny cartoon (loony toons style) viloence, and overall it is a great show
Well, my five year old thinks it is soooooo HILARIOUS. it is not, but I can deal with it. I don't have a problem with a kid knowing about "explosive diarhea" or making potty jokes -- that's normal kid stuff and we have the job to teach them when it's not appropriate.
No one has mentioned what bugged me most...mild girl-bashing, shall we say. Chowder asks "are women all this emotionally draining" and the implicit answer is YES. Mung not only teaches Chowder how to cook, but how to think and behave toward women ("never tell a woman she's fat", etc.). Not that you shouldn't let your kid watch it, but you shouldn't let these things go by, assuming it doesn't have an effect. There's always an opportunity for discussion, even in such a DUMB cartoon!
I love this show. I think it's hilarious. I agree w/other reviewers--it's not educational at all, but sometimes it's OK to watch a show just for fun. I love the animation (seems old style--reminds me of some '70s shows I watched as a kid) and goofy, offbeat characters. I love that all the characters are named after food.
Although not educational, I do think it might get kids interested in cooking by watching Chowder and Mung Daal cook.
For the reviewer who said it was a SpongeBob rip-off, that is because the show creator used to work on SpongeBob--hence, the similarity. I am also a SpongeBob fan, so I guess it's no surprise that I like Chowder. I like Chowder even better than SpongeBob because the humor is even funnier to an adult, the old-style animation and because it is more offbeat.
The only issue with this show is potty humor, although that is true of SpongeBob, too. If you don't mind your kid watching SpongeBob, you will have no problem with your children watching this show.
If you like being called names by your 3 year old...
First off, let me admit that I haven't watched much of this show. But, I have experienced its effects. I have an (almost) 4 year old who loves this -- watches it at her sitter's house mostly. At first, it was just a few off color, "potty humor" type remarks that when prompted, she explained she'd heard on "Chowder". (At this point, I didn't even know what it was.) But last night, she called me a loser. And when I asked her where she'd learned it, she told me "Chowder says it."
I know that it is directed toward older kids by the rating, but just be aware that if you are trying to raise your young children to be respectful, maybe they shouldn't be watching this. I wish I could remember the exact potty humor-type remarks that she attributed to it too for your reference here, but I can assure you they were inappropriate for a child her age or even older. Anyway, she won't be watching it anymore. Please use your own judgement if this behavior/language would be an issue for you.
I agree with the first reviewer who had concerns about the language of this show. I was in the car with my 8 year old and he asked me what 'explosive diarrreah' was. I almost dropped my jaw! And since my 2 boys have started watching it due to the 'newness' of it, they talk back more and are snotty and name calling with each other.
After watching this show with my younger brother, I have to say that this show lacks thought. As entertaining as it is, it's still noneducational. If you want your children to learn a thing or two, I wouldn't let them watch this show. It's full of potty humor and weird ideas. It's very crazy, which is typical with a cartoon for kids. For children who just want to be entertained, then they should watch this show, but if you want your child to learn some good moral values, I suggest letting them watch something else.
Chowder is a great and unique show and i have yet to see a problem to keep children from watching it. I laugh when I see parents complain and say they don't allow their kids to watch it. if your looking for education try reading one of your own books to them, cartoon have always been a thing of entertainment, having fun, and just being about to laugh out loud.
This is the strangest show I've ever tried to watch. It does not make sense at all and the carachters are rude, strange, and use language that is not acceptable in our home. It's very "trippy". Lots of potty humor and/or rude humor. Even my husband has forbid the show which is saying a lot since he is not as conservative as me. There are lots of questionable cartoons on Cartoon Network and my kids are not allowed to watch that channel alone ! I have to turn it on for them. As for it being just like Songe Bob as others have said, I don't think so !! Not by a long shot.
I think chowder is a cool cartoon because he cooks with his father. Just like kids like me I cook with my mother or cook myself. Chowder has a girl that likes him, but doesn't like her. It's funny because he yells im not yoru boyfriend
Chowder surprised me. The cartoons often found in today's market are either smacking you over the head with themes tied into recent over-dramatized headlines or other social concerns. What's left is usually either makes attempts to be "highly educational" or very base in nature (such as Total Drama Island).
Chowder is a step off. Something I think Jim Henson would appreciate.
My 7 year old daughter likes this show but is slowly losing interest, Chowder is a fun, silly, brightly animated show that lots of younger kids love to watch. However, if you are a parent seeking educational programming, sadly this is not it: each episode features another escapade of potty humor, mindless adventure and random fun. I think that the show is cute and funny, but it doesn't have any real educational value or instill any morals in kids. However, this show is on for kids 7 and up for me.
I think CN should kill all the live action junk (and every disgusting new show on CN) and bring this back! The animation is pretty good.So are the jokes!
