Excellent show for teens and adults

Overall: Cobra Kai is an excellent, entertaining, and intriguing show based on the Karate Kid trilogy. It features positive messages, humor, romance, and karate action, but also contains more iffy content than Karate Kid. However, if you think you/your child is mature enough to handle it, I highly recommend watching it! (I do suggest watching the Karate Kid films before Cobra Kai.) Violence: Karate plays a major role in the show, and is used professionally in classes and tournaments, but also in everyday life for defense, to settle disputes, and to ‘get back’ at rivals. Fights can be brutal, and characters get beat up and injured, but there’s not much blood and when there is it’s a result of karate kicks and punches (no weapons like knives or guns are used). Twice we hear the loud crack of a bone breaking. Sex: Sexual content is surprisingly strong, more so than the Karate Kid films. Both adults and teens (but mostly teens) flirt, kiss (sometimes passionately), and deal with romantic complications. Some suggestive talk. Two adult couples have sex (one married, one unmarried), but we just see them wake up next to each other and briefly talk about it. In season 1 a man spray paints a penis on his rival’s billboard, which is discussed and joked about (the word d*ck is used). Language: Strong language throughout the show. P*ssy is used countless times as a replacement word for wimp, and sometimes is meant as an insult. Expect to hear sh*t, b*tch, ass, damn, etc. frequently, as well as a few f-bombs. Insults such as ‘penis breath’ are also used. Drinking/drugs/smoking: Adults drink occasionally at bars, restaurants, and in celebration. One man drinks frequently, sometimes to excess. Teens drink from time to time as well, and once in season 2 they drink and get drunk at a party. A teen boy is said to have been caught “hooking up with molly” (the illegal drug). Positive messages/role models/representations: Themes of family, friendship, bravery, working past rivalries. The main characters are flawed but are ultimately good people. Several main characters are strong, capable, independent women. Characters make iffy choices, sometimes without consequence, but typically they learn from their mistakes.

The dumbest show ever

The stupidest show I’ve ever seen. If I could give it one star I would. This ruined the karate kid series for me. So many vulgar terms, inappropriate references, and most of it is completely unnecessary. There is also underage drinking and horrible swears. And I absolutely hate Hawk. I watched the first season and thought this can’t get any worse. Sadly mistaken. Don’t waste your time on this trash.

Severely disappointed in Cobra Kai

As a Martial artist myself, karate actually, I LOVED the Karate Kid movies. They were really cool and the scenes are iconic. With Cobra Kai, however, it was an attempt on making more money on the Karate Kid. I think that the idea is decent, though the way that the story unfolds is not. There is too much swearing and it’s pretty unnecessary. The talk coming from kids mouths is NOTHING like the original Karate kid movies. Sure, you can argue Daniel LaRusso has his moments where he says a quick swear under his breath, and at the end of Karate Kid III, Mike Barnes talks some trash to Daniel while swearing, but, in Cobra Kai, there are words that are way worse being announced loudly. Another reason is that all the “references”, (if you are old enough, you know what I mean). I just felt no reason to add this to the normally clean Miyagi-verse! I think that, After the awful movie that was The Karate Kid III, the Miyagi-Verse should have been left alone or, just make a cleaner, closer to the original Cobra Kai. All good things must come to an end, and I think that The Karate Kid plot should have ended sooner. Hope this helps!

Cobra kai is a great show. There's a ton of drinking shown. Way too many sexual references. Season 5 has a lot more violence than the previous seasons. In episode 1 of season 5, there are 3 f words used in spanish in one scene and then one more used later on in the episode. There is also a few more uses of the f word with another use of mother f---er. Daniel Larusso can often be frightening to younger children in this season. The new season deserves a tv-ma rating.

Great show but swearing, drinking, and violence

I loved this show!!! I think this has great role models. It has a lot of girls doing what they love most which is karate. I think this will help kids achieve their dreams. On the other hand, this is karate and there is a lot of violence. The kids and adults also swear a lot so I would be mindful of that. There is also kissing and stuff like that which is why I think you should be a teen when you watch it if not older. Personally, I watched it with a parent so if you think it's not good for a kid; you can always just watch it with them. UPDATE: Season 4 recently dropped and there is a little more swearing compared to the other seasons so I would say 14+ because it's a good show for teens.

RATED MA 15+: Strong coarse language and themes, Strong violence

I always thought in life that the karate kid was just a PG rated film and so nice with very mild explicity but then when i first watched cobra kai it said was TV-14 (14 years olny) Then i said to myself, "Thats reasonable since it has violence. But no. So many sex refrences, violence, bloody violence and very powerfull language. But no matter what it will still be a good tv show.

Ew, no.

I remember watching this in 2019 but I didn't enjoy it after watching only two episodes. But it's just crazy with language, it's strong. Probably rated Mature for strong language. It's like a karate show basically but I don't like that kind of stuff. This show is mentioned "popular" in my class. Some kids were talking about when someone was watching something really gross, I understand what there talking about (parent reviews). Literally (parent reviews) sexual content's something present in this and why are so many kids watching this? Don't bother. Please. If you don't enjoy language or sexual content, maybe both. ( It's in season one according to other people who watch this, like why would you bother watching this with your kids? ) Mature: Strong language, sexual references.
