Cult Classic

The characters' flaws often stand out more than their strengths, and it makes them feel like real people. Their cons are not simply flanderized to "narcissistic" or "stupid."

community is a g-g-great!!! show

This Review is all wrong, it undermines what the whole show is about, the show is about a group of 7-8 people getting together, and becoming a family. and yes, in the earlier seasons, they are all stereotypes, but that's what makes their character growth so amazing, there's Jeff, the group "suave guy" abed, the "uber nerd" troy "the jock" piece the "racist old guy" Annie "the smart and organized one" Britta "the activist" Shirley "the good Christian mother" Ben chang "the crazy teacher" and the dean "the gay one" but as the show goes on, they all somewhat break these stereotypes, it is a 100% enjoyable show, don't be put off by all these bad reviews. just 2 things this review got wrong. 1 there is 2 fbombs in the final episode, every episode else. fine. and 2 I would say that the group is a role model, at the start they're all kinda jerks and such but become a family at the end. six seasons and a movie

College comedy's wit trumps some stereotyping.

peak cinema, sometimes inappropriate

Community is a hilarious genre-switching mind-bending clinically insane work of art, that acheives the peak of comedy, being most likely the best piece of television, nay, cinema, ever created. They do use minor racial stereotyping as a crutch at the beginning, but it finds its footing.

A sitcom like no other!

When I initially read reviews for Community, I thought it would be another workplace-like comedy that took place at a community college. This couldn’t be farther from the truth; what makes Community special (aside from excellent casting, direction and writing) is its frequent use of parody and its willingness to think outside the box. Community is wacky and strange, and uses outlandish scenarios in a seemingly boring place to perform character studies that are also incredibly funny. I’d recommend this show for those 13+ because there are frequent references to sleeping around and very occasional minor plot points (appearing in 1 episode each, separately ) regarding incest and freaky sex rooms (sorry for this wording) (played for jokes). Community also relies on homages, as mentioned, so it’s more enjoyable when viewers are aware of the material being referenced, which is typically best for teenagers or above. (Some examples would be The Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, The Breakfast Club, Good Will Hunting, Sixteen Candles, etc.) The characters are all also flawed and sometimes terrible people, which is entertaining, but they do grow throughout the show. The conflicts of young adults and clever writing will also just resonate more with kids old enough to get it. Because Community is so out there, it can be inaccessible at times, so if you’re not aware of pop culture or not open-minded about silly storylines, this could be a little too weird. However, my family was able to enjoy it a lot even though we didn’t understand more of the niche references. Community is incredible, especially in its first three seasons, but also had later gems that made it worth keeping up with. So glad the movie’s coming out soon! I would consider Community a more wacky/less dry version of The Office or a more grounded version of The Good Place, as it had so much heart, a great ensemble cast, and a real reason to exist (even throughout slower seasons) like both of these shows.

Love the show! Sometimes inappropriate.

Great feel-good show! Yes, the show has stereotypes in the first seasons and some sexual references. There isn't really any swearing, maybe in the last season? The show has amazing characters that you will connect to! It's even quite diverse. There's also good messages, for example, bullying. In conclusion, the show is great! The language or the jokes can be a little inappropriate sometimes. Recommend it for teens, not younger. #andamovie

Community

Favorite show. A lot of sexual references, but none very graphic. 10-11yr olds probably can watch, if fairly mature about certain topics (roughly same demographic as the office).
