It definitely encapsulate the ultra capitalist society we are in currently and the social economic issues folks face due to that. Its stunning animation, relatable struggles, aesthetic, as well as core values makes up a whole in this genre. The hard part about watching this series is the it’s a heartwrencher. Keep in mind who’s around since hyper violent action scenes often result in gore and literal curb stomping people’s faces into the ground. It tackles other topics like drug & alcohol use, body dysmorphia, and mental illness without skipping a beat so it does need to be kept In mind when watching because it gets intense. Also if you’re sensitive to flashing lights, take this show slow, it’s a lot on the nervous system. It’s best lesson I took away from this is that you need to follow your own dreams instead of other’s life expectations. Ultimately definitely a good anime.

With any other studio this would of been as much a misguided disaster as it's source material. But amidst the trippy mayhem and sensational absurdism there is a fiery beating heart. A story of adversity and injustice leading to crime and discovering family and empathy in unlikely places. The characters are never lost amidst the waves of gore and technobabble and the plot remains coherent from beggining to end. The highlight being David and Lucy's budding romance that endures trial after trial until it meets a devastating but moving finale. Also BECC BECCA BECCA BECCA.... There are 2 brief but VERY explicit sex scenes in the first episode. After that there is plenty of sexy but tasteful full nudity fanservice without onscreen activity. Over the top almost comical amounts of gore are omnipresent (especially in the final half); where it seems anything reduces everyone to red jelly and there are too many exploding heads to count. 2 particularly nasty ones are suffered by innocent doctors and is played for traumatic drama rather than action. A flashback to a massacre also features many mangled innocents whom are drawn far more realistically than all the other cartoony gore scenes. Theres is also contant swearing.
