This show is disgusting. There is lots of sexual content and drinking. For instance a girl breaks up with her boyfriend to go to a movie premiere with her friend and tells her they are going to look 'hot' and starts lap dancing her. When they go to the premiere they break into the after party by one girl kissing the other on the cheek and complaining about a false strip club job and explains to her friend they got in because they were hot. They then start dancing innapropriately to get attention. They make out in one girls bedroom later and they get together. In another episode a girl takes racy pictures of her in bikini and lingerie by a classmate who tries to bring out 'the sex goddess' in her by selling ot pictures to a mystery adult man who confronts her on the street.A girl desides to get plastic surgery and shows up to a school dance beyond drunk and gets kicked out of the house. This show is disgusting and i don't want anyone to watch it

WAY too much sex.
Sorry, as a parent...I think this show has WAAAYYY too much sex for even young teens. The problem is I didn't find out until after my 11 year old son had watched it several times. The "N" (Nickleodeon) should be far more responsible than this....parents, make sure you know what's in this show before letting your child, tween, or young teen watch it.

I have been watching this show for years along with my daughter, who is now 13. Have found it very benificial to talk with her in depth as the show is on and after the show about the situations depicted. She has learned a lot from this show.

Love It!!!!!!!!
This show is one of the best! I love how it shows all of the ups and downs of being a teenager. Even though there is drug use and a lot of sexuality I think it is fine. Not to much consumerism too which I like!

I watched the original Degrassi Jr. High and High School on PBS in the mid -late 80's and early 90's
I watched what the kids watching today would say is the the Old School Degrassi. It was on PBS and only on in the late afternoon on the weekends. My Mom whom all my friends loved and thought was really cool would not let me watch it until I was in the 8th grade because even back then it was controversial with Spikes teenage pregnancy, smoking and alcohol. Needless to say even at 14 I was pretty much the only one of my friends allowed to watch it. I've seen the new show and I think it is way worse than the original. Whether or not the creators of the N realize it or not they are marketing that show mostly to 10-12 year old girls. I know this because my daughter is 11 and she has friends her age that watch the show. Now I don't think I'm a prude, but 10-12 year old girls don't need to be watching this show and if the N thinks that they are not and it's mostly Jr. High and High School kids that watch this show they are wrong. Thoose kids are watching other things and most of the time worse things. I just htink if they are going to have a kids channel such as the N it should have shows about upper elementary school and adjusting to Jr. High that would be more relevant.

Not a show for kids...
Well for one I consider my self conservative when it comes to children and tv. I accidently caught this on my tv when I woke up one moring, I was getting dressed and listening to it in the background, and I was shocked. I looked at what station this show was on, and it was on a kids channel. So I sat down and kept watching. There are 2 guys on the show that make out and ended up " falling in love " with each other on the show, and yes they are all in high school. Its like a younger 90210 but more deeper if you ask me. All they talk about is sex. This in NOT something I want my kid watching. Thats the problem with today.. These kids are learning about sex from tv, instead of it being taught and explained by the parents.

Strongly Caution...Parents Need to Watch
I really believe this is a show that should be restricted to ages 16 up ...I watched several episodes and don't think they are appropriate for "tweens" or young teens. Yes, I agree that teaching teens about sex, drugs etc can be an educational tool but for example the "eye of the tiger" episode I watched today included a actor using a penis pump...not something I consider educational. There's a line and Degrassi really crosses it much too often. Parents need to watch several episodes too really see what this show is like..not good in my opinion and I'm pretty liberal.

OK So, You guys are saying you should be 14 to watch this, I am a safe mom I must disagree, For young children, yes of course, But starting in 6th grade this is what you hear and what you know about, As long as you know this is teaching you not to do these things and the consequences this is a valuable show, Lets face it our children are bring exposed to alot early as 11 years old and this show explains why these are bad actions!

A show for adults only
I read a lot of the kids/teens reviews and most of them said that the show was ok because it protrayed real life. Sure it does portray what high school is like but just because everyone is doing it doesn't make it right. I do not allow my kids to watch it. I feel that if you are going to let anyone under 17 watch it, you as the parent/guardian should watch it with them and talk about the consequences of sex and drugs...

Disgrace, not Degrassi, should be the name.
ABC Family Channel? You have got to be kidding me. This is absolute filth, and not anywhere fit for a so called "Family" Channel. This show has strong sexual content, references, drugs, and other immorale behaviors. Not only will my kids not watch this, but I wont either. Due to shows like this one is why I steer away from such "family" channels.

Too Much Too Soon
...A beautiful high school girl drinks alcohol so that she could relax enough to have sex with her boyfriend. The boyfriend just got out of jail, and as a result of being in jail, the boy dropped out of high school. Also, the girl throws a party when her parents were out of town. The party got out of control and a boy was stabbed, then later died. Overall, the show has bad messages it sends to kids under 17.

A contovercial but entertaining show!
While the world of Degrassi may seem inapropriate to some, others may tell them that they are wrong in many cases. It shows us, young people, how to better deal with some situations that arise in our everyday lives that our parents have not talked to us about. Overall it is a good show that teaches teens how to better deal with sticky situations!
- I rate this title on for age 11 and give it
Honestly, people.
This show is amazing. It deals with real life issues as opposed to most shows on television. If reality bothers you, I don't reccomend this show. I've been watching it since season 1 when I was in eighth grade, I believe, and one group of characters graduated with my class. The only problem with the show is that they don't make the causes of injury look as intense as they should be for the injury. If anything, they need to upplay the violence. It's life people, get over it.

ADDICTING!
I love this show so much, it's really addicting! I think it can be unrealistic at times, because it makes it look like it's normal to have sex while your a teenager. But at least it handles all of the issues very well and shows you what the consequences would be if you did these things.

wow... I was suprised how good
The old Degrassi put me to sleep, but I cant stop watching TNG! All the issues in this show are dealt with in a way that people my age can watch and still enjoy, without being totally grossed out. There isn't as much swearing and sex and violence and some of the reviews suggest, but there is some so no viewers under 12, I'd say.

Coolest show on TV!
I love this show! It's good because it's not like Gossip Girl, where they just have sex and do drugs and get away with it. In this show, there are always consequences for the bad things that they do. It teaches teens and late preteens all the messages that they need to know to be safe in life. Highly recommended!

Great show, but often misunderstood.
It's a great show. There might be some issues that people don't like but that's their own person opinion. It covers so many issues that teens may have to face and it all ends reasonably. It's realistic! I mean, how many shows out there actually show characters engaging in real-life situations without sugar-coating them? Degrassi is one of the few that pre-teenagers and teenagers will actually enjoy watching. For parents that say that this show is disgusting or whatever, that's high school these days. High school is about all of this. You guys are focusing on the wrong aspect of the show. It's not because a chick gets an abortion or because someone tries to sell drugs, but what about the consequences of these actions? It teaches children that they should watch out, and be wary that they don't engage in acts as such. The show just simply displays situations that may happen to a teenager. You can relate to it easily. It's a wake up call for kids who are about to enter middle school or high school. And as a 10th grade student, I can seriously look at the show and say, "Oh yeah, I remember that happening." I know so many people that watch this show. But you really shouldn't be under the age of 11 when watching this show. There are some violent situations where I couldn't handle as a fourteen-year-old on the show. Seriously, I had to change the channel. It's not a bad show. That's the misunderstanding. Degrassi's great :D

Good for Teens.
Degrassi is a good show because it's about real stuff. It can be kind of inappropriate because of violence, language, and sexy stuff, but it's a well done show. I recommend this for teenagers, but it might be too innapropriate for tweens.

A great lesson-learning show.
It has violence, sex, and drugs/alcohol in it, but used beneficially for teach teens that there's a consequence for doing each of these things. You learn a lot with this show. I love Degrassi because of that. It's a really great show, but I wouldn't recommended it for anyone under the age of 13 or 14.

i love degrassi! But everytime i'm watching it and my mom walks in it's at the worst possible part and the worst possible episode! EVERY TIME!! so she thinks that's all the show is so she thinks it's super inapropreiate, but it's really not. Yes some parts are unnessisary, and that's where a sensible teen, one with good judgement would change the channel at the bad parts and continue watching when that 30 bad seconds is over. That's what i do, i understand this stuff happens in real life and that some i'm still too young to be seeing, so i simpley change the channel. If your kids are responsible and you trust them and they are mature, you should be fine.

Good show (13+)
Although many people will disagree, I think that it teaches very good messages, if you can look at it the right way. Many teens in the show do bad things, but, in the end, they are punished and feel bad for what they did. It can be taken the wrong way at times. I would watch out for younger children (10 and under) because of some of the scenes, and they don't really learn from it, as older kids do. It is perfectly understandable if parents don't want their 12 year olds watching it, but by the age of 14 or 15 parents should let their kids watch it.

Cool, for old kids.
This show is totally awesome! It is kinda bad for younger kids because it has a lot of sex talk...even scenes of the high school kids 'almost' doing it. Most of the time, they get punished. There's some bad language and the teens are often seen drinking and smoking.

Wonderful Show.
We all know what entering high school is like. And if you don't, Degrassi: The Next Generation will teach you all about it. It has all the basics. Drug use, sex, violence, and LOTS of drama. There is many intense scenes in the show, however. For example, a jelous boyfriend abuses his oh-so-innocent girlfriend, and eventually puts her into a coma. In another episode, (This episode was only shown in Canada, because it includes the subject of abortion), a fourteen year old girl finds out she is pregnant, and gets an abortion. Later on in the show, two more teens have unexpected pregnancies as well. This show teaches teens about the encounters they may come to at one point in high school, and even middle school! The characters and scenes are all so realistic. The characters often have to choose a path of right or wrong. When they choose wrong, they must face the consequences. Parents should be strongly cautioned, however. Despite the many sexual, violent encounters in the show, it is fantastic. I recommend it to anyone who is in middle school, or about to enter high school.
