I will not let my 3 year old watch this show. There are much better educational shows on TV. Dora has horrible manners - Yelling, telling others what to do. SHe knows of Dora thru all the items in the stores. You can't get away from it, but she has never seen a show.
This show is really annoying, and when reading the review about it, i see what they mean! I have a 5 year old at home, just turned 5, And she LOVES dora, She is constantly Repeating her self. More than any usual 5 year old. Its momma, momma, momma, MOMMA!!! (because dora tells you to "YELL LOUDER") Also not a good show, because my dad is a 3rd shifter and dora not only encourages you to yell louder but to stand up and jump up and down, This is in the Daily Programming!
this show stinks. the barrage of products that follows it baffle me, as the show has horribly lame stories (even for the youngest ages), and my 3-yr-old finds it boring. The talking-at-the-screen doesn't make my child respond, and the random espanol-dropping doesn't make this bad lip-synch animation educational--it is simply aimed to trick parents into believing it is. don't waste your "two hours or less per day" of viewing time on this unimaginative and boring show. Watch something with creativity, imagination, and great music, like the Backyardigans.
I am here to defend Dora the Explorer. She is very educational. This show teaches problem solving, shapes, letters, numbers and some Spanish. If you do not live in a Hispanic populated area, you may be blind to see that learning Spanish is a great resource for children. If you think she is mean and yells at people or is into paganism, give me a break! I think that the cartoons we were all raised on, like Bugs Bunny, My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake were more violent and were more involved into paganism than Dora ever could live up to. I do think Dora is a great show and I do let my children watch it.
What harm could it do? Oh no! My child wants to make believe and she wants to be a princess or she might pick up some Spanish. The world is not going to end if you let your child watch Dora the Explorer.
Sexual Content (Not an Issue): None.
Violence (Not an Issue): None.
Language (Not an Issue): Viewers learn Spanish.
Social Behavior (On): Characters are kind, generous, and willing to help others. There is a villain (or bully, rather), but it's clear that his actions aren't acceptable.
Commercialism (Pause): Dora is a huge marketing empire: video games, toys, dolls, bandages, you name it.
Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Not an Issue): None.
I don't like Dora the explorer because when she speaks in spanish she doesn't use the correct idioms of the spanish language. I am a native spanish speaker and every time I hear Dora I can't believe how bad her idioms are. They really need to work on the language in that cartoon. It seems they've used an automatic translator for the parts in spanish. It's a shame that they ruine the spanish language like that. I really think Dora is bad even for spanish speakers, it confuses the kids and then they make mistakes in their own language because they get confuse after hearing Dora mal using the language, teh incorrect idimos sound correct to them.
Wow if you haven't realized young tweens on here that Dora is for preschoolers so in the end it doesn't really matter what you say, as long as they like the show.
Really the hit thing with Dora is she's bilingual and opens kids up to other cultures, much interaction with the audience as well as adventures to overcome with Boots and learning Spanish along the way.
Dora is extremely repetitve, I think the song "Backpack" is just the word backpack yelled 16 times. Many people talk about the benefits of learning Spanish but they don't use enough words. They go to completely made up places that make no sense - Cupcake Mountain is nothing but a giant cupcake. When my daughter was 2 it was good for her learning words like under, on, through, etc. By 3 I could tell she was beyond it, but she wanted to watch it all the time. I banned it.
educational but Dora isnt smart! "She say were the apple tree"? and then she goes silent and it's right behind her the whole time! plus here stupid backpack keeps on singing this "backpack, backpack, backpack, backpack"! It drives me crazy! I would rather get detention then watch this show!
Dora may have had some redeeming features at some point in time before I had my daughter, but they;re long gone now. She is apparently incapable of speaking in a normal tone of voice - EVERTHING is SHOUTED AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS!!!; the "bilingual" claim is highly suspect, since she barely uses more than one or two Spanish words in an episode; and Nickelodeon has apparently sold its soul to the devil of mass marketing, because this show does little more than familiarize kids with that ubiquitously licensed little face, which is absolutely inescapable in any store or aisle of a store dedicated to young kids. I personally don't want my child brainwashed by advertisers at the pre-school stage, so I severely limit her exposure to the show, and throw out nearly everything anyone gives us that is Dora-branded.
Dora can speak Spanish and English. I can't even speak English proplerly. Just Kiiding. Kids love this show and the only reason adults and teens don't is because they can't have a little fun. Dora is very nice and teaches a little Spanish. She has the kids help her stop swiper and other things. If you or your little brothers and sisters like Dora then you sholud watch Go Diego Go!
My kids are 7 and 8 and while they don't want to tell other kids at school, they still like to watch it. We all like the fact that there are some Spanish words mixed in so that they can learn a word in the context of English (easy learning). And I like the values taught. Go unicornio!
I'm really saddened by all of the hatred out there for Dora. Granted, I do not LOVE her....but my (just turned) 2 year old LOVES her and it has helped with her vocabulary, memory and she has a good time watching it. She can name all of the characters and her vocabulary has blossomed! Why all the hate? And seriously.....stop talking about anything being bad about her shirt being a bit too small.....do you people NOT understand children. I am a preschool teacher....I know them VERY well! She is a little girl with a huge imagination!
ok listen here to all the parents that dont think that it is not good. well i can tell you that it might get all little anoying sometimes but my daughter loves it and if you dont like then. Dont watch it. so dont be argumentative that it is not good because you know that it is good. you just dont like to let your children learn. they can learn spanish now so they wont have to learn it in high school. cause they are going to have to.
