This show's jokes about drugs, teen pregnancy, selling foodstamps and general smart mouth is not acceptable for children. General disrespect shown to parents, promotes being sarcastic remarks to everyone....may have been life for Chris Rock ( and me) but not what I want for my child...I believe in promoting a nuturing environment, teaching my child to be kind, considerate and loving. And then there is the use of the "N" word - I grew up in the south and find this word repulsive - I refuse to use it, and I dont want my child exposed to it. If my white child sees black folks calling each other the "N" word - how in the world am I supposed to teach him it isnt okay for him to do it? Sorry - I cant buy into this show as appropriate for children.
As someone who attended middle school during de-segragation in the early 70's, I think there's lots to learn from here. And I applaud Chris Rock for bringing an original show to the airwaves. However, after reading several reviews that touted this show as "family entertainment," I sat down to watch with my 7/8 yr. old. I was not impressed with the rough language. Several times within the narration Chris used the words "ass" as in "got my assed kicked on a daily basis;" "b**ch" and of course the N word was used early on. From this standpoint only...I cannot allow my daughter to watch, though were she a little older I would want to review the themes and situations with her.
Hate the show. This show is extremely racist to white people. The show sends out a horrible message and you may notice all the white people in the show are jerks or stupid rather all blacks in the show smart and responsible. Blacks can make all the racist commets they want but if we do a show that's racist to blacks then God forebid. I will never watch or let any of my friends watch this disgraceful show.
Modern-Day "Wonder Years" Has Too Many Stereotypes
Everybody Hates Chris is a very witty and clever sitcom, like a modern version of The Wonder Years with its nostalgic and honest look at the past. However, I think this show has a major problem: there are way too many stereotypical and caricatured characters. Malcolm In The Middle is an obvious inspiration for Chris, but even that show didn't have so many stereotypes. People say Glee is the worst when it comes to showcasing stereotypes, but I think Chris is far worse. The overabundance of stereotypes on this show simply doesn't flow well with this type of realistic and nostalgic comedy. Stereotypes work for real-surreal comedies like Malcolm, My Name Is Earl, and The Middle (albeit to a lesser extent); it doesn't work for Chris and that's a big reason I'm giving it only 3 stars.
First of all, this doesn't deserve 4 stars! It deserves 1 star! Or better yet half a star (if it was possible.) his is one of those shows that people like but you hate with all your might.THERE IS NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE SHOW! It's just plain overrated and boring! There is a load of violence (punching, kicking, wrestling, ect) there is also SEX! Like in one episode I saw Chris's stupid mom & dad HAVING SEX.There is also CURSING.Like the N word, the H word, the D word, and the A word! Really?! So overall this is nothing but a boring, annoying, stupid, vulgar, rude, and overrated show! I'm so glad it god the can! But,why oh why must Nick At Nite rerun it?! If you like this, fine then, waste your time with this kiddie trash! Just respect my opinion fools!
A mostly wholesome and funny show. It's an honest look at real life issues, with a bit of humor thrown in. There are a couple of questionable shows -including one where Chris steals an issue of Playboy, but altogether it's sweet, family friendly and really REALLY funny.
