My Mom always wants to watch this during dinner, and for once I can agree with her! =D
It's kind of funny how my Mother considered this a family show in our house when it is meant to be an teen and up show (I have a younger brother). However, it's probably one of my more favorite shows now! It's truly hilarious and the characters are all very likable! I'd recommend this to just about anyone older than 12! However, not everyone might get some of the jokes, especially younger viewers,
FRIENDS is a great show. While I do understand that there are sometimes things that parents might feel are inappropriate, the reality is that everyone in 7th grade, or about 12 years and older, have heard, seen, or even said at some point. These 6 core characters show how to maintain wonderful friendships based on honesty, love and trust. Values such as love, friendship, responsibility, trust, hard work, and the importance of laughter are shown. One interesting point is that when Ross and Rachel have had a child out of wedlock together, the point is clearly made that condoms are not 100% effective, and a lot of people in my grade didn't know that. I'd definitly watch this show- I watch it over and over and over again, and have most of the seasons on DVD. It's great when you just want to relax and have a laugh.
Friends is an intoxicating mix of laughter and tears that has held most viewer's attention for the past ten years. The brilliant direction, writing and tight-knit cast has created a show that stayed fresh week after week. On the subject of sexuality, situations and innuendo are everywhere. As a teenager, this is nothing I couldn't handle in the fourth grade. The jokes that are a little subtler fly over the heads of those not ready to hear it. There are several episodes when characters are intoxicated, and it doesn't make for a very wholesome show and characters sometimes make mistakes. When you really think about it, the mistakes that are made actually discourage drinking. Overall, I think this show is definately appropriate for kids my age and even a bit younger. The issues are things that can be discussed and thought about. My twelve year-old sister and I watch this show every night because of the great dynamics between the cast. We adore the characters because of their great relationships and their lasting friendship.
It has some iffy parts but in the end kids are exposed to much worse at school and being able to talk about it in a safe environment is great. Explain to your child that some of the behavior shown on the show is not OK.
"Friends" is a hilarious sitcom that sadly showed its final episode last May. However, "Friends" will forever be in our lives via re-runs and DVDs. The producers couldn't have found a better cast. Jennifer Anniston plays the spoiled Rachel, Courtney Cox plays the bossy Monica, Lisa Kudrow plays the spacey Phoebe, Matthew Perry plays the girly Chandler, Matt Leblanc plays the dumb Joey, and David Schneider plays the nerdy Ross. Sex is a huge issue, as there is nonstop innuendo and sensuality in almost every episode. There is a lot of innapropriate language (hell, D**n, ass, b*tch). Characters drink. The social behavior is bad because the main characters seem obsessed with casual sex and one night stands and can be very mean to each other. That said, "Friends" is a classic sitcom and if you're a teen or an adult it is deserving of your time.
As an adult I watched and enjoyed this show. I don't, however, feel that it is a show kids should watch. There is a lot of promiscuity, between the regulars and guests. There is a lot of innuendo. As Rachel works in fashion, it is implied that females must wear designer clothes (as all the cast did) to be "cool". There is a lot of drinking. Discussion of drug use. Babies born out of wedlock. A lot of swearing, including "Oh my God" in every single episode. If your older children watch, I feel it would be best to watch with them and discuss what the characters are doing and how their choices are right/wrong.
This like most sit-coms send a questionable social message and is contaminated with gratitutious sexual activity and innuendo. Young children should not be exposed to such behavior.
This is a true comedy, a excellent mix of characters makes youlaugh out loud, although it has common reference to sex, the show is more about comedy, the amasing fact Joey gives his pizza a sapecial table, Ross is smart yet stupid and chanelers general everythingness.
