Mature 13+ should be fine for this excellent sitcom
This is a great show (though it's definitely been sliding since s4) that's probably okay for some 12-13 year olds. Everyone 13+ is probably fine. Some episodes can mention sex quite a bit (the absolute worst episodes ever are probably the three where orgies involving 10 and 12 partners and a vibrator are mentioned, all in season 2). Just make sure your kids know what sex is. Otherwise... yeah, no.
one of my dauters came home from school one day tellying me that her friend watched this and thought it was so funny so i thought i would try it wow im glad i lisened to my daughter on this one me and her where in the floor laughing the whole time
The only thing negative about the show is how much they talk about sex. This show is hilarious. I love it. I want to be best friends with Marshal, Lily, Ted, Robin, and Barney.
I think this show is Very funny for adults, and depending on the maturity of your child it is ok for them also. There are quite a few sexual references and innuendoes in each episode. The shows friends spend a lot of time in a bar, but don't really do a lot of drinking.
I used to watch this show as a 31 year old woman. I then started to feel convicted when I was embarrassed to watch it with my own parents and my husband! I just feel that it treats sex very casually and sends the wrong message to kids about relationships. Sex is at the forefront of discussion in almost every episode. While I enjoyed the humor, it was often crude and I decided to give it up even though it was a favorite of mine during it's first season. If you don't mind your child thinking it's okay to have casual/premarital sex then by all means, let them watch it.
Although many overlook this show on Monday nights, How I Met Your Mother remains to be the most unique and clever sitcom on CBS. Bob Saget's narration effectively works for presenting flashbacks and goofy situations a la Patricia Heaton's narration on The Middle. The overall style of HIMYM makes it feel like an ABC sitcom, except Mother is filmed on videotape instead of film. While Friends will always be a classic sitcom, HIMYM is actually more clever and better written than Friends ever was. Like Friends, HIMYM has quite a bit of sexual humor and profanity making it inappropriate for younger viewers. However, teens and adults who give this show a chance will love its sweet tone and the great chemistry between the actors. It's certainly better than Rules of Engagement and Two and a Half Men.
