A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that CBS's Lingo is a revival of a hit game show that has been around since the 1980s. Ru Paul hosts the fast-moving game of wordplay, engaging the contestants. Viewers can expect some innuendo in jokes, such as an emphasis on "lucky balls" which are actually just added supports that contestants have access to in one segment of the game. Competing teams consist of pairs diverse in everything from relationship to ethnicity to sexual orientation. Overall, it's a family-friendly show that encourages critical thinking and spelling prowess.

What's the Story?
In LINGO, teams of two compete for cash by solving word puzzles. In one round, the teams are presented with Lingo boards, which are similar to daily Wordle puzzles. As players progress towards guessing the word, money is added to their bank. If a team does not guess the correct word by the last row of the grid, the other team gets a chance to steal. Other segments of the game, like Lingo Battle, Lingo Showdown, and Super Lingo, in which contestants are given clues to solve longer words, help players earn more cash winnings.
Is It Any Good?
Word connoisseurs will have a blast with this revived game show. Driven by the popularity of Wordle and Scrabble, Lingo is sure to add a splash of spelling to a fun family night. Pre-readers may be bored with it, but it could still be fun to have them watch and gain familiarity with letters and words. Any inappropriate jokes will likely go over their heads. Like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and other more intellectual game shows, Lingo reminds viewers that it pays to know your stuff.
