i didnt think this show was all that great, because its not for everyone.if you get offended by stuff against religion you shouldnt watch this.it also has some comic violence and drug use.it shold be noted though that the sexual content contains stuff like masturbation and peircings (all done by a curious not-knowing kid).overall its an okay show, but it should be for 16+ or so.
(Judging from seeing only 1 episode,)This is a hilarious show! I love it! I am 12 years old, and love [adult swim]. Although, this is very inappropriate, and not for kids. There are very bad messages, including mixing pleasure with pain. The church that Orel goes to portrays sex, drinking, gambling, swearing, self pleasure and about every other thing to be the work of the devil. He says you will be damned to hell if you do any of these things, and that if you do, you should punish yourself. Orel does this, since he is, well, a dumb 11 year old. (Not that all 11 year olds are stupid.) The shocking situations are hilarious, but this show is NOT for kids.
This show may not be for kids, but i am 12 and frankly I thought the show was genius. The way it missinterpeted christianity was brilliant. However, i understand this is an adult show and by watching it you can cleary tell. The jokes are someimes very offensive but it has shown me the flaws in Chirstianity. Like for instance how parents of christians can be. My friend is a huge example. His parents hate eachother but they always are together. The reason that I love this show is that its just what i think about and ponder into a tv show. I do not reccomend watching it with your family. If i was a parent I would let my kids watch it at 14. They are old enough to get the jokes and old enough to handle it. I get the jokes but some of the episodes (numb, best christmas ever, alone) are incredibley hard to watch. Check it out some time.
While I agree that the very first season of this show was really nothing more then cheap gags and stabs at religion, and NOT for kids, the second and third seasons were some of the best I've ever seen.
Oral's father really takes the spotlight in the show, and although not the most appropriate "Moral Orel" can really show how people can basiclly ruin their own lives.
And of course.
"God works in mysterious ways."
I swear it is (or was) one of the best shows on television. Don't judge it by it's appearing on [adultswim], Moral Orel was arguably the classiest show to appear on there. Perhaps that was the reason it was sadly canceled.
Breaking it down, Moral Orel started off as a comedy about the hipocrisy of the authority figures in a very religious small town. However, as the series progressed it delved into the not so moral subplots and backstories of the figures, showing us the darker aspects of human nature.
I'm disappointed with many of these low starred reviews, as they all seem to say the show is unfunny or offensive to Christianity. The show was never quite a rolling-on-the-floor riot of laughs, but that could be because of some more subtle puns and background objects being some of the funniest jokes (ex. the coffee mug on the Reverend's desk says "I hate my boss" ) and the fabled third season being much more serious than a comedy generally is. Nor is it bashing Christianity, rather it's bashing the sad people who use Christianity as a crutch for themselves. Without his religion, our naive main character Orel may have never gotten through his childhood.
I'm sure you've heard the legends of the third season. They are true. The third season did something not many shows dare to do: portray harsh reality as it is. The third season felt somewhat crushing to be honest. I was 13 when I watched this show, and while I had understood the various problems the characters had and watched many movies and series with similar characters never had I had all of them collected into one monumental show, one monumental season. If you know your teen is a mature one, don't let them miss this show. The alcholism is definately not celebrated (rather, alchol is attatched to some of the worst characteristics of the townspeople), and the sexuality is moderate at most, it's role only to illustrate some of the practices Orel is banned from as a good Christian and to be used in occasional, silly crude humor.
