This show is great for older children.
Positives include role models who help Naruto and his classmates believe in themselves and work extra hard to become stronger, faster and smart. There are good messages in the show including the occasional attempt of the main characters to try and convert an evil enemy to a good ally. Ultimately the show is very violent and, in the end, violence is the only answer this show gives to solve problems. The majority of this violence ends in ultimate sacrifices while characters try and protect their friends and families and, unlike Dragonball Z, there is no way to bring them back. It shows mourning for lost shinobi and when someone particularly close to Naruto dies it shows the steps he takes to overcome his sorrow and keep moving forward. In the unedited version there are copious amounts of blood, smoking and alcohol, the latter two occur rather frequently just before the end of this series and the beginning of Shippuden. The versions shown on tv have the majority of this edited out. There are some sexual areas in the series. Early on the majority of this type of behavior comes from Naruto and his Sexy Jutsu (in which he becomes a naked, well-endowed female) and his target's perverse reactions to the jutsu (usually excessive nosebleeding which indicates dirty thoughts). Sakura also has her fair share of flirty moments in the beginning during her constant vies for Sasuke's attention. She stares at him dreamily and daydreams about him and how cute he is. Both of these things fade into the background as the show progresses and becomes more plot-oriented.

A great anime.
My 8-year-old son and I watch this every Saturday when it airs on Disney XD. I used to watch this with my 13-year-old son, but he doesn't watch it anymore (he instead watches Kekkaishi and others).

Naruto, the truth behind the facts
Okay, I am a huge fan of Naruto, and have seen every episode, in Japanese and English, in Japan it's up to a part 2 after a time skip of 3 years and everyone is 3 years older, nonetheless, the review: As the show is aired on Cartoon Network I'd give it 10+, but the fact is it is extremely edited from the original Japanese version, the Japanese version used words such as "sh*t" "D**n" "b***ard" an awful lot, and the violence was much bloodier, that is why there are Naruto Uncut box sets, which many collector's and kids probably want, be careful, the English version of these is fine, with cursing such as "crap" or "D**n", but the violence raises it to Viz's T+ rating (16+), and part 2 of naruto is being released in a year, and that is after the time skip, which is much bloodier, sexual, and using more cursing then many shows on adult swim, Part 2 is planned to be aired on adult swim as TV-14 for a reason, it's scary as well, as the akatsuki members consist of a Grim Reaper, a man made of dead bodies sewn together, a man who turned himself into a living puppet along with thousands of others by removing their organs, etc. Be careful But it is a great anime, great plot, America did some terrible dubs, I recommend the Japanese version for the more mature kids, I've seen the uncut in Japanese and every episode, and I believe it's a terrific anime, thumbs up

Appropriate for Preteens
This show has just about no bad language, and the only thing I'm not sure I like is all the violence. However, in comparison to the Japanese version, this show is really toned down. It's really suitable for anyone above 10.

Epic story telling at its finest!
Nartuo and Naruto Shippuiden are both excellent, filled with rich character development, multiple story arcs, and points of view. Taken together, these are easily as sophisticated as adult shows produced by HBO and Showtime. Frankly, they might beyond the capacity of younger less mature viewers to follow. The Japanese is version isn't censored and in my opinion better.

Love it!
Hello, I believe that Naruto is a good show. I used to watch it before( I have lost track of it now) and I found that it has a lot of positive messages... At the end there is a moral, I love that, in fact it has more talking than fighting. Kids might like it because of ninjas and fights but I do recomend this show for 11 and up. I have not catch up yet but I will hehe. Great Show!

Believe in Yourself and Never Give Up On Your Dreams
Naruto may be violent in many aspects, but the messages in this show are, I would say, the best things about it. They're incredibly meaningful. Naruto has a drive that enables him to never give up, and always shoot for his dreams. No matter who you are, or what setbacks you have, achieving your dream is possible. Not only does the boy Naruto start out as a flop, but every one hates him for what he was born as. Every one isolates him, and hates him. Kids bully him and beat him up. But his persistence and drive never falters. He goes from a child that everyone hates to a child that everyone grows to love and cherish. Another great message is that he never gives up on his friends either. His dearest friend Sasuke goes over to "the dark side," and for years, Sakura and Naruto chase Sasuke around, holding on to the remaining chords of their friendship, and never give up on bringing him back to their village and saving him from a terrible future. Naruto shows what friendship truly is in many aspects, and he shows that you can make a difference, even if everyone says you can't. All you have to do is believe in yourself. This show is a truly phenomenal show.

You would think with more than 300 episodes, that they'd find a deeper message
Has probably the most linear, recycled plot; 1-dimensional cardboard cut-out characters. How it rose to fame is another question altogether. Though I think it may have to do with the titular character's overuse of DATTEBAYO. Even the underlying message is not great. Allegedly it's supposed to represent how hard work will overtake talent, however that is not the case. Rock Lee, who has probably had the hardest childhood and training, is easily outstripped in terms of power by those born with powers (Naruto's demonfox, Sasuke's sharingan, etc). A brief summary of the show's message: no matter how hard you work in life, you'll never be as great as the people who were born into power.

not for kids
My kids don't currently watch it and will never watch it if I have anything to say, it's violent they curse often for no reason, and are essentially child mercenaries. Despite their talk of fighting to protect friends and such the only reason they're there is because the leader is paying them to.

Love it very inspiring!
Love it. Great role models for kids. It has a little innuendo including sexy no jutsu. But it depends on how mature. There can be violence but again you need to know what your child can handle. I'm thinking 13+ would be about the age I'd let a kid start watching. But that means nothing! Maybe you have a upbeat mature 12 year old or a timid 16 year old. Just pay attention to what your kids can handle.

good for teens and up
This show is freaking amazing, i cant believe that people complain about blood, i mean we all have, and guess what when you get punched really hard or get stabbed....you bleed. If i had a kid i would let him/her watch it even if it was uncut where there is more swears and blood, i was quite a mature/smart kid, sure i would love to do the things people did in shows, but i would never try t do them and get myself killed. If your kid does do stupid things, blame yourself for crappy parenting instead of the show.

reconmended for teenagers
I think parents should explain to thier child under 11 or 12 that the stuff in naruto is not real. Violence is problem for children under the age 12 (especialy for 6-10 rage). The uncut version and shippuden sub titled should be watch by teens and possibly 12 year olds
