Why We Rated This on for Ages 8 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

The Jedi are constantly battling against the dark side to help justice and peace prevail. Yoda tries to suggest that violence isn't the best way to solve problems -- but at one point also forces the bad guys to shoot themselves. That said, he does also emphasize the value of a person's individual gifts. Some characters (like Jabba the Hutt) are unapologetic criminals.

What to watch out for

  • Violence & scariness:

There's a fair amount of shooting and things exploding, just like in the movies. But most of the things being shot are robots, and it's all animated. Characters are frequently in peril and often use weapons, mostly blasters and lightsabers.
  • Sexy stuff:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

The whole Star Wars franchise comes with a vast merchandising program and lots of toys and other products -- and this show is no exception.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Parents need to know that kids -- and Star Wars fans of all ages -- will be eager to check out this extension of the mega-hit franchise. It's much tamer and more age-appropriate for kids than the most recent live-action films, but there's still a fair amount of violence, from lightsaber battles to the typical shooting and explosions. And for all that Yoda preaches avoiding aggression, he can certainly do some intense damage when he's attacked. The whole galaxy is at war, so conflict and peril are frequent.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about how this series fits into the overall Star Wars story. Does it matter that you know Anakin's eventual fate? Does watching this show help fill in anything that you didn't know about in the movies? Families can also discuss whether watching this show makes kids want to buy tie-in toys and other products. Kids: Are pretend games more fun if you're playing with a toy figure or if you pretend to be the characters yourselves?

    Good

Good, the first season would probally be all right for anybody 7 and up, but if you watch the second season you might want to wait for when your kid is about 8 or so, because my 6 year old brother stopped watching it because of that dark looking character, Cad Bane (the bounty hunter).

  3. I rate this title iffy for age 7 and give it 4.0
    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence

Watch with caution, but very good.

What kid doesn't love Star Wars. This is actually a very well done show (stiff animated characters not withstanding). However it is very violent. Probably more violent than the original trilogy. And the second season starts off very darker and my 6 year old refused to watch the episodes because of the bounty hunter character. I would really have to say this show is designed for adults, but packaged for kids. If your kid loves Star Wars he can probably handle this, but there is some dark stuff in here and it's really unavoidable.

    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence

    • My highlights are:
    • Good role models

not very good but age appropite for me and off for little kids that are 5 and under.

this is barely ok but makes me bored but it is popular.

  5. I rate this title on for age 10 and give it 2.0
    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence

    Some violence, but OK.

Michael, my 10 year old brother, watches it every day. After watching this show, Michael became a big fan of this. Me, well I'm not a fan of Star Wars or this show.
