Great acting, a lot of sex
I originally started watching this show because of the fact that I'm in AP Euro and we were talking about renaissance italy. However, it's not the most historically accurate, and there's a lot of sex. Like, one fairly graphic scene in every episode. Furthermore, the sex has a very intense feel to it. It almost always is rough, not like rape, but it's rarely loving or kind. The thing is, is that the sexual dynamics between characters is often a major part of storylines and character development. OTher than the sex, there's also a lot of violence that feels unnecessary, but it is fairly time typical I guess. The acting is really really good though, especially from Jeremy Irons(Pope Alexander) and Francois Arnaud(Cesere).

For history lovers.
I think it is appropriate for people who want to watch historical dramas based on real life families . I fist watched this when I was twleve and i found it very enthralling and well scripted. I think it is suitable for children at least 13 and up because they most likely know about all the things that happen in the show and parents should get over the fact that that their children watch it because they could be doing a lot worse things than watching historical true life drama.
