Parents need to know that this nature program focuses on animal predators and, as a consequence, features some violent, aggressive animal behavior that may upset particularly young or sensitive children. But for those used to the facts of life in the wild, it's packed with insightful information about animals and their activities.
Like many other nature shows, TOTALLY WILD focuses on animal behavior, highlighting different species for their foraging skills, social conduct, and other unique abilities. But unlike many of those shows, Totally Wild aims to attract older viewers by breaking away from the more common, cutesy format of children's nature shows and offering a more extreme, graphic view into the lives of predators.
While Totally Wild is packed with interesting educational content on various species, it tends to focus on the harsh realities of life in the wild. In other words, this is no sweet, Disney-fied interpretation of animal behavior, and it might upset particularly young or sensitive children.
Overall, Totally Wild is entertaining despite the sometimes-graphic footage. If bloody hunting scenes and vivid shots of animal flesh don't bother your kids, they may find great pleasure in this well-made, educational nature program. After all, the laws of Disney don't apply to the animal kingdom.
Families can talk about the importance of nature preservation and how even small efforts at home can contribute to the continued existence of animal species around the world. How does human behavior affect animals' lives? How can each of us make a difference? How are humans and animals interconnected?
