The fact that they gave this an Emmy is almost sickening.
Wizards Of Waverly Place is highly overrated. I'm surprised to see Common Sense calling it wholesome and whatnot. Whoever wrote the review clearly has not seen the average episode. The show is about three kids-- a pre-teen named Max Russo, and two older teens named Alex Russo and Justin Russo. Somehow, they inherited magic powers, and their father gives them magic lessons. The catch is only one of them can keep their powers when they grow up. The kids constantly go behind their parents' back and use their powers for their own gain, always causing some sort of problem. The kids are awful rolemodels, such as Alex, who is materialistic, irresponsible, and just unlikable in general. Her character is probably the worst in the show. For example, the other night my sisters were watching an episode in which she explicity says she hates helping people, and later in the episode, she criticizes others for wanting to help people solely for rewards and not wanting to help people out of the goodness of their hearts. She often makes rude remarks to her best friend Harper for being herself and wearing unique clothes, and to her brother Justin for being himself and being responsible. I don't know how Disney thinks that kids should be able to identify with such a mean-spirited girl. Without the character of Alex, the show would be a lot more wholesome. Not only does this show not send good messages to its viewers, but it lacks humour (the laughter effect button is practically abused), is not very well-written, and the special effects are terribly cheap for Disney. If you want to watch a more age-appropriate and more enjoyable show involving kids with magical powers, look for Sabrina: The Animated Series or The Secret World Of Alex Mack on video.
The "WizardsVs. Angels" episode was very offensive! They made the good angels look like a bunch of giggly idiots who can't protect themselves. Also there is no such thing as a "dark angel". Not at all for Christans. This isn't funny at all.
Seriously, the newest episodes are all about true love and kissing and high school break ups. Take another look at what your young kids are watching. Just cuz it's Disney doesn't mean it's compleately innocent.
This is my favorite TV show ever. Alex Russo acts very rudely in the first three seasons, (example: in one episode she steals money from the cash register at her parent's diner and uses it to buy a vending machine so she doesn't have to do the work to save up money to go on the school field trip) but in the fourth season she is a great role model. She supports her best friend, fights for good, is responsible for her actions, etc. Just explain to your kids that her rude actions in the first few seasons are NOT OK and you should be fine.
ANYWAY, THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!!!!!!
This show has terrible role models. Alex is a conceited, mean-spirited brat who cares about no one but herself. Justin is a pretty good role model, but is a doormat. Max is so dumb it's funny, and the parents are dim-witted and oblivious to their kid's behavior. Don't let your kid watch this show.
Please.
Its not TERRIBLE, but its bad. Alex and Stevie are bad rolemodels because they constantly use irresponsible magic like when Stevie puts a hole in the school floor and the person falls in it, and Stevie, regardless of where the hole leads to is doesnt care a bit. And Alex is just a lazy brat. It also drives me crazy how Max is so clueless and dumb. The only characters I like are Harper and Justin because they try their best to make good descisions. Not the best show.
I really don't know why Common Sense rated it 7+. It is scary for young kids. Fine for tweens and teens but not kids. Like in the episode where Mason and Alex have to break up those rich ppl have scary faces. And the haunted house one with.. mantooth I think his name was? Kinda disturbing for young kids. But I love this show. (:
The show is pretty funny, it has humor that kids, as well as parents will enjoy. But my concern is the character, Alex, I believe she is not a very good role model. She mentions various times that she dislikes reading, doing chores, and shows somewhat of an attitude towards her parents and encourages to act mean to get what you want. My younger sister, who is 6 years old, has imitated these behaviors. But over all, if you teach your child that those people are just acting, and you'll never achieve anything positive from doing what they do, it won't be much of a problem.
Really? No negative messages? Here's a quote that stuck to me: "Amazing! With these powers, we don't have to walk all the way over there and do that!" The kid was talking about walking five feet to get a hot dog! You sould at least get a little exercise before stuffing your face with white bread, pig intestines and ketchup! Really? it's not bad that she skipped her strange version of school to go to a clothes store, even though her friend was there and could have bought whatever she wanted for her?! Really Disney? This is what you are doing? If you want stupid kids, all you have to do is tell people to not send them to school, you don't make an obnoxious American suburb version of Harry Potter! And really Common Sense? You give this show a good review? I have a B in every class I take, and I see aroung this bologna!(Yes, that's how you spell 'baloney' on a proper reading level!) I'm madder than Lewis Black at a stupid news coverage people convention! That's blistering fury for those of you who don't enjoy the works of one of this nation's funniest comedians.
It's a little too sweet for older kids, but kids younger than 15 will like it. Alex has a lot of boyfriends and stuff but nothing too heavy. Max and Alex are okay role models but Alex is is irresponsible and Max is just plain stupid. Justin is the best out of all the kids. The parents are idiots as in all the Disney shows.
I love this show!
I watch it all the time!
I think it is good for 6 and up.
Because kids under six may not understand it.
Sure Alex is lazy but each character is supposed to be uniqe.
I actually think it's funny , how she acts!
There are good role models
like Harper or Justin, they both get good grades and arn't afraid to be themselves!
Im watching it right now!
But even though Justin and Alex act like they hate eachother they always end up helping eachother with problems and they really do love each other. ( Their brother and sister).
I really like this show. Everyone is saying Alex is lazy, or a terrible roll model, but she's not that bad. First of all, let's face reality, that's how most kids that age act. They wouldn't want to make it with only GOOD roll models, cause that's not realistic. If you really want to watch a show like that, watch Playhouse Disney (or now Disney Junior) cause thats the only place you'll find shows like that. Anyways, Alex sometimes helps people and ALWAYS learns her lessons in the end.
The show rocks, but Alex is'nt a very good role model.
It's a very great show, it's about three teens and a preteen that are wizards and learn how to control thier magic. It's a really hilarious show and I just love it. Although sometimes I really think Alex should step up her behavior, because she tends to be lazy, obnacious, tricks her family into to many things, and not very caring. Other than that she seems to be very funny and fun to be with. Recommend it to kids 7+ :)
I love this show! Alex wasn't as good as a role model in the beginning of the show, but she became way more responsible and caring throughout the series and to the end. Justin is very goody-two-shoes which can be a good influence because he always tries to get good grades and follow the rules. Max is just dumb and he seemed to get dumber throughout the series. But, I do see that it copies Harry Potter wayyy too much. Mason Greyback=Fenrir Greyback. G.H. Darling=J.K. Rowling. Wiztech=Hogwarts. At Wiztech, they have very similar uniforms to the Hogwarts ones and round glasses like Harry as apart of the uniforms. The school is a castle just like Hogwarts. If I were J.K. Rowling, I would be pretty mad. Other than that, great show. My sister and I have loved it since it premiered in 2007.
This is a great show!! Selena Gomez who plays Alex is a great role model!!! This show about 3 mischievous teenage wizards is very amusing!!! I think the show went a little bit too far with Max turning into Maxine the little girl. It is a good show though!!
alex's behavior is unrealistic and really funny its not like shes encouraging that behavoir, and in one of the episodes at the end she comes out as selena and says that her character alex doesnt like reading but she explains (in a funny, not boring way) that reading can be important.
