About Me

I like pretty much all forms of media, including books, movies, television, games, comics, and web video. I think I might have been really bored had I been born in another era. :)

What My Kids Love Now

My three-and-a-half year old daughter adores the Dora and Diego games for the Wii. The motion-sensitive controls are just what she needs to be able to play frustration free. She also digs the Wiggles, but not Jeff because "he sleeps too much doesn't really do anything."

House Rules

The buck stops here. Papa vets everything she consumes, before or as she consumes it.

When the Kids Are Asleep…

Once my daughter is tucked in we watch a lot of TV on DVD. Big Love, Deadwood, Arrested Development, and Lost are amongst our favourites. If my wife hits the hay before me, then the earphones come out and I get to enjoy some mature interactive entertainment in games such as Fallout 3, Dead Space, and Gears of War 2.

My Biggest Challenge Is:

Looking after my daughter while working at home. Whenever I manage to get work done during the day I feel as though it comes at the expense of my girl. If I get on a roll writing an article it can be hard to pull away from the computer and play with her.

  • Game: The Island of Dr. Frankenstein

I rate this titleonand give it3.0

Budget adventure is violence-free, but also short and bland.

This is a game best thought of as a child’s introduction to the world of adventure and role-playing games. Its world is small and painless to navigate, the story is mellow and easy to digest, and ...

  • Game: Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

I rate this titleiffyand give it4.0

Whimsical galaxy-hopping romp is heavily weapons-laden.

Educational safari game has a strong conservation theme.

There’s not much to Animal Kingdom: Wildlife Expedition, but what’s here ought to prove plenty of fun for animal-loving kids. The animals animate and behave fairly realistically, and ...

  • Game: Littlest Pet Shop: Friends

I rate this titleonand give it3.0

Pet game based on toys has strong message about friendship.

Aside from the game's clear marketing ploy designed to heighten awareness among children of Hasbro’s Littlest Pet Shop toys, this isn’t a bad game. Its strong message of friendship and ...

I rate this titleonand give it4.0

Sports-themed party game is active, educational, and fun.

  • Game: Lucidity

I rate this titleonand give it4.0

Gorgeous but somewhat scary game is like book come to life.
