If your child WANTS to see Brokeback Mountain, they are probably old enough to see it. It's not like some movies; they don't want to see it because of the hot chicks or the cool fight ...

Should You Read Your Kids’ Texts?
Your Comments:All I see in this forum is parents using more and more extreme examples to justify their behavior. It's important for a child to stake a claim in their world, even if it is a privileged one. THEIR room, THEIR clothes, THEIR texts. You pay for these things, so you own them, but rubbing this in your child's face will only disturb them. A common problem with parents on this site is that they take in too much from the media and it weighs down their own opinions as an individual. Which is ironic, considering the large amount of time and energy this site puts into helping you stop the same thing from happening to your child. A news story about a child shooting up a school is just a news story. Yes, it is tragic, but it is a bad stereotype to assume all teenagers are just a few texts away from this same behavior. OJ Simpson is a black man, but you would never take that information and say that all other black men are moments away from murder. It's great that you want to protect your child but, as the parent, you shouldn't have to stoop to reading texts to know what is going on in their life. You and your child should have a real relationship, and if you don't, that's the real problem you should be addressing. A good parent wouldn't need to read text messages to know what's going on. In young children, this behavior is more acceptable, but when your child becomes older [14+], you should have already done enough as a parent for this to become unnecessary. Instill good values in your child and the need to constantly monitor them is no longer a need.

Gossip Girl Threesome Adds Up to New Low
Your Comments:No teenage child is dumb enough to watch TV, see a practically PG-rated, TV-ok "threesome," then decide that's the only type of relationship they want. Your 16 year-old already knows what a threesome is. If he sees one portrayed as a sex scene in a show about irresponsible teens, there is no reason for you to assume his next movie night with the guys is just a cover for wild orgies. He'll be okay if he watches it. Don't worry so much.

Instant Messaging Tips
Your Comments:This website is so ridiculous. It states in another article that kids don't talk dace-to-face anymore, only in cyberspace, and this article reiterates that. Okay, you ban your kid from IMing, texting, and all other forms of online/non-physical communication. Good job, you can sleep at night and tell all your friends what a good parent you are. So, you're banning them from school too, right? I mean, how else are you going to "protect" them? My best friend doesn't have texting. We talk about whatever we want face-to-face all the time. Verbal communication still happens. Get over yourselves, you are all psycho hovermoms.

Tech Tip: Checking Browser Histories
Your Comments:Yeah, here's a great story about an insane parent. My mom used to be really over-protective. She made the whole family use the same computer, and she followed that general rule about having it in the living room. My sister and I both used it, and we had to take turns. Well, one day it broke and she took it in for a virus check and it had all this downloaded porn on it which had viruses, so she came home and she screamed at me and my sister about it for about an hour because she was so mad. It wasn't me OR my sister. It was my dad, and he admitted it. Now I have my own computer, and I don't look at porn on it. Parents always assume kids are the stupid ones when it comes to everything, but you can never out-tech your kids. That's why my dad got our computer bogged down with viruses. Cause he's a retard parent who can't figure out that online porn is bad. Even I, the child you're trying to censor, knew that one. The end.

Tech Tip: Checking Browser Histories
Your Comments:lilmissfrankie: on your keyboard, press Ctrl + H (the letter key). Your history should come up. Organize it by Day (folders saying Today, Yesterday, Wednesday, etc.). That's the easiest way. Then, whatever period of time you want to erase (say, you asked me how to do this, so you wanna erase todays) you right click that folder and select DELETE. You must delete all the little folders to delete it ALL, but that usually isn't necessary. If I do it, I delete that days only :) Good luck getting around your over-protective parents. If they read this site, they probably sleep in your closet at night to make sure you don't go get an inappropriate snack or something.

Is It OK for Kids to Do Homework on Facebook?
Your Comments:I don't use FBook for homework, but I DO use FBook, and it is not a big deal. I have never gotten a friend request from someone I didn't know (unlike Myspace!) and my experience has never been filled with Satan and sexual deviancy like many of the parents on this website seem to believe. You hate FBook because you love your kids and you don't understand it. But because you're blocking out this crucial part of your child's life in today's world (social networking online), you are sheltering them TOO much. It's good that you care and want to keep them safe, but installing blocks and acting like your child is an idiot will only cause resentment. My parents never censored me and I love them for it. I don't view inappropriate content because I don't want to. I have friends who ARE censored and they view it all they want, and do whatever they want, anyway. You will never be able to beat your child at the technology game. Stop reading this website and obsessing over it. It'll never happen.
