What I love now

Fantasy and science fiction! Historical fiction, some romance (not usually the chick-lit type, though). Anything that tells me something about other cultures or places.

My Parents’ House Rules

I self-regulate books and music, with the help of this site. I listen to/read pretty much anything as far as books and music go, but with movies I'm a lot more censored by my parents and myself.

In My Free Time

Writing, writing, writing! I read a lot and watch movies sometimes, but only movies that are in line with my interests. Playing outside...did I mention writing? I'm homeschooled.

  • DVD: Bend It Like Beckham

I rate this titleonand give it5.0

      • My highlights are:
      • Positive messages
      • Good role models

      Tons of fun!

I'd be the first to admit that this movie isn't the best, but personally, it's one of my favorites. I love the Indian culture, I love England and I love soccer/football, and the ...

    • DVD: Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen

I rate this titleoffand give it2.0
      My concerns are:
      • Inappropriate sexual content
      • Excessive consumerism
      • Negative message
      • Negative role models

Hated this movie from start to finish!

Ridiculous messages and no consequences made this movie unbearably annoying for me from start to finish. Lola doesn't learn anything and never seems to change, and yet is constantly accepted for ...

      • Book: The End (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 13)

I rate this titleiffyand give it3.0
        My concerns are:
        • Excessive violence

        • My highlights are:
        • Good role models

These books are smart, witty and well-written, but I honestly can't get past the perpetually gloomy tone. It's frustrating to know that every time something good happens to the characters, ...

      • Music: "All Is Love" (CD single)

I rate this titleonand give it2.0

          • My highlights are:
          • Positive messages

Great for young kids - nothing to worry about here as far as good or bad messages go - but the squeaky pitch of the entire song is sure to grate on nerves very quickly if you're over six or ...

        • DVD: Star Trek

I rate this titleonand give it5.0
          My concerns are:
          • Excessive violence
          • Inappropriate sexual content
          • Inappropriate language
          • Drinking, smoking, or drug use

            One of my favorite movies!

First of all, I love almost any kind of science fiction and fantasy, so no matter what this was going to be a treat. But I was amazed at how good it was, and definitely didn't want it to end! The ...

I rate this titleonand give it3.0
            My concerns are:
            • Excessive consumerism

              Fun

Lots of fun, but painfully sweet in the beginning, teens be warned! I was gagging into my hand for the first fifteen minutes, which is precisely the point. It was a little overwrought and the ...

            • DVD: Tropic Thunder

I rate this titleiffyand give it3.0
              My concerns are:
              • Excessive violence
              • Inappropriate sexual content
              • Inappropriate language
              • Drinking, smoking, or drug use

Clever satire, but some jokes in bad taste.

I am fourteen and I watched this movie...and was extremely uncomfortable. Yes, it was witty, yes, it was funny...but I would have appreciated much more if I had waited a few years. I actually thought ...

              • DVD: The Matrix Reloaded

I rate this titleiffyand give it4.0

Not as good as the first but more fun to watch

First and foremost, this movie isn't quite as mind-blowing as its predecessor: but personally, I think it's a lot more fun to watch. Carrie-Anne Moss really comes into her own in the role of Trinity ...

              • DVD: The Matrix

I rate this titleiffyand give it5.0

                Mind-blowing

This is one of my favorite movies of all time - set in a gritty and enthralling underworld with plenty of action, special effects and an awesome storyline too - what is there not to love? I saw it ...

              • Book: New Moon: The Twilight Saga, Book 2

I rate this titleiffyand give it3.0

Melodrama, melodrama, melodrama - but utterly addictive

In typical Twilight fashion, this book manages to be a totally engrossing read without hardly any depth at all. Bella's constant moping starts to trigger the gag reflex after awhile, especially once ...

              • Book: The Golden Compass: His Dark Materials, Book 1

I rate this titleonand give it5.0

                LOVE this book!

This is an absolutely wonderful book - even if the beginning starts out slow, and you might have to read it a few times to "get" it. It's definitely not a cliffhanger: instead, the appeal is ...
