Common Sense Review

The Library of Congress presents a window into its extensive collections with the view focused on kids' interests. The site is divided into five major sections, "Meet Amazing Americans," "Jump Back in Time," "Explore the Capitol," "Join America at Play," and "See, Hear, and Sing."
In the famous Americans section you'll have a story read to you about Thomas Jefferson's penchant for pasta. Illustrations and animations accompany the text. You can even pause the story to copy Jefferson's own recipe for ice cream. Then try a clever interactive word search that works right on screen.
"Jump Back in Time" gives you a peek into New York's Radio City Music Hall and takes you to an interesting story about a car designer. Try your hand at designing a futuristic car, then choose a background scene for it and print a poster for your room.
Other areas of the site offer a simulated hot–air balloon ride over Washington, DC, a fascinating look at break dancing movies from the late nineteenth century (!), and a "don't miss" collection of unusual audio recordings in the "Jammin' Jukebox." The six-year old child's animal imitations are amazing. You'll also enjoy making and playing your own cartoon in "You're the Animator!"
