What’s the Story?

What if kids designed toys and sporting goods for other kids? That's what By Kids For Kids (BKFK) aims to facilitate, as kids are encouraged to learn about inventing, patenting, and licensing their own products. You'll find a tutorial on the invention process, and an online diary to make notes and log your market research. This section explains the entire process of dreaming up an idea and patenting it. There are also quite a few inventor-inventions links in the link library.

Is It Any Good?

Unfortunately, you can't use much of the information on the site until you register and give a real email address so that parents can approve a child's participation. Once the parent has completed the online approval process, the new member can explore the site. Registration is free, but is it worth it the hassle? You decide.

One of the benefits of membership is supposed to be access to the online magazine, but it doesn't have any articles newer than three months ago. The games section offers nothing connected with inventions or inventing, instead serving up common titles such as "Concentration" and "Tetris." It's surprising that the site claims to have gotten a number of "Site of the Day" awards, since its offerings are nothing out of the ordinary. It is in need of reinventing itself.
