Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 15–16

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

This site is not appropriate fashion competition or style creativity for kids.

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

The prototype doll on this site does not supply young girls with anything similar to a realistic body image (think: Barbie post-breast implants and collagen lip injections). Players win points to spend on the site via "battles" against other players for best-dressed doll, "hot or not" events, and by getting "fame" for the number of people who visit their profile.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

The site has "role play" and other forums where rules are ignored and sexual content gets posted. The female dress-up doll image and most of her fashion options are hyper-sexualized versions of women with big boobs, small waists, and plump lips. Players can shoot a water balloon at odd jumping images of a bikini-clad girl with her legs spread to win a "hot ringtone."
  • Language:

    None observed.
  • Consumerism:

While the site is free, you have to pay to upgrade with "mojo." (4 mojo for $1.96, sold in groups of up to 500). Pages are littered with ads for products ranging from cell phones, laptops, and SUVs to "Find Sexy Girls" and other adult-oriented Web sites.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Dollwar

Parents need to know that this popular doll dress-up site is not suitable for young kids, despite the creators' assurances that it is meant for kids, with parental permission. (Kids under 18 are supposed to have parental permission to join, but all you really needs is a valid email address.) The guidelines and moderator warnings to adult members against posting inappropriate content aren't heeded. But that's no surprise, considering the sexed-up doll and fashion choices aren't kid-appropriate either and "role play forums" exist on the site. Offensive words get bleeped out in chat rooms, but stuff often gets through. Kids can also send private messages to other members. Profiles include personal information, including location. Kids have to earn online Dollbucks to buy clothes, and ads are everywhere -- even embedded into contests and content.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about Internet safety for sites where kids and adults hang out together. Does that pose unique safety problems? When an adult male on a doll dress-up site offers "fatherly advice" to kids that should raise a red flag. What information should you give out? Also, discuss sexualized images of women. Do you think your body should look like a doll on Dollwar.com?

    A Great Site!

I've played dollwar for a long time, and I have seen nothing that was said in the review. Dollwar is an easy game to play, and there are no sexed up dolls. I recommend this site for any kid, because its fun, easy and most of all enjoyable.

    I love Dollwar

Dollwar is a wonderful website and it is so much fun. I visit it every single day. They do have things showing half naked girls and the girl that you dressup has a small "model body" making it seem that like is the perfect body. Also, there are clans and battles and in order to ugrade your account you can either pay with real money or use a dollwar form of money. I love dollwar and I think it is a great website!

Use with a grain of salt.

Kids and their parents should always use websites with caution. This is no different. And btw, I heard those creepy rumors a few posts up are not true.

Use common sense and there's no issue.

Like all websites that involve any social interaction, there are potential dangers in using dollwar. However, if you don't give out personal information and use the site with a little common sense, dollwar is fine. The website has a large staff that keeps out any language and anything above a PG rating. The dolls' appearance should not be an ideal for girls, but again, it takes just a little common sense to know that and still enjoy the website.

    Great site.

If others from the dollwar site were to come on here, you would here a totally different review. What did you do? Look for everything bad on the site, and decide "Oh, this site is SICK! No child should go on it." This is complete overreacting. I have been on the site for over a year now, the only bad things I have come across are the few cuss words in profiles, and after they are found, the user is banned, and not aloud on the site any longer. This site is great, and I love it. It is fun, the forums are fun, and everyone on it is nice. I see nothing wrong with the site at all.
