Gaia isn't as bad as these people claim

I have a Gaia Online and Forum assistants delete such things that talk about sex in the fourms alos they cant catch all them which is why memebers are inencaruaged to report Voilations of the TOS "Terms Of sevice" so befor you go and judge Gaia Online for being a innappropriate site why not get your facts sraight.

Despite the growing increase of "Gaia Cash" which can only be obtained through real money, this site not only teaches kids about trade values and style, a vast majority of the forums are dedicated to topics like art, reading, and community. The "spam" areas, which are a mad house anyway... to the point where no sane traveler really goes there... are the only areas with slight questionable content. There is more than just the forums too. Families struggling with the growing MMO desires of their children will find zOMG (gaia's Casual MMORPG) to be a refreshing change. Not only is it light play in that it doesn't require your child to be on for hours to accomplish something like in WoW, but it doesn't require any downloads or direct access to your computer. Furthermore, since there is a forum on Gaia the MMO lacks most of the questionable side conversations of other MMO's leaving people who talk strategy or recruit for crews to work together to defeat bosses. There are even points where players have to work together, so it encourages team work. Gaia is also a safe place for your kids as far as online security is concerned. The Admins regularly publish tips about how to keep accounts and private information safe while having a great system to report any suspicious activities. Regardless any parent seriously concerned with this issue should at least take the time to educate your children on safe habits. Gaia is also such a diverse environment that it doesn't matter what your child is into that they will likely find a place they will enjoy hanging out in. Gaia is also great for parents. There is an active guild for Gaia users who are older, and most activities are age neutral.

    PG13 not for lil kiddies

This website is rated PG13 which I don't know about everyone else but when's the last time you saw a PG13 movie? There is partial nudity, some violence, and some strong language. There are filters on the site to make it where the language won't be hardly as bad. I think it's a great place for young adults to meet people and have fun.

    Good Question!

Here's a better question! Would you rather they just hung out on Myspace?! At least Gaia's admins fix problems promtly! Myspace ignores problems and lewd content. It's practically a pornography haven now. Myspace is a problem. gaia is a place for kids to play games and be creative. Ban Myspace, not Gaia!

It's actually a lot of fun. From building your own aquarium, making a house, racing your customized car, playing games including puzzles (!), following a storyline and AMAZING items, this site is great! Safety isn't a concern as everything is customizable and no personal info is shared. (Definition RPG) Administration also has strict guidelines for threads, comments and such. If someone is bugging your kid, not to worry, they can report with just a click! A lot of people get banned for bad language, but Gaia does a great job of weeding out the few bad seeds so the rest have an enjoyable online experience. I love this site! Common sense? Teach parents to get their eyeballs out of the newspaper and away from work for an hour and SPEND TIME with their kids, get involved. Join Gaia and get on their buddy lists or buy them cash cards and let them show you their Dream avatars and such! I'm a 28 year old parent of an 8 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. My oldest plays games on my profile and helps me fill my aquarium with decorations and fish and even helps pick out my avatar's outfit! I play but involve my child! Parents, give your kids some slack. They're smarter than you give them credit for! I have a 12 year old on my buddy list on Gaia and she drew me the most wonderful picture which I have on my Gaia profile! These kids need to be encouraged for using their imaginations! Not wonder if the site is appropriate or not. Gaia is a place for kids who like cartoons and games. There's a lot of talent on there. And Gaian kids, add me! Kyrstyn_Fae . Viva Gaia!

Not good site for anyone under 18

My kid starting using this site. I've looked at some of the friend messages she gets & their profiles & their seems to be a lot of sexual innuendo, weird pix & just not very healthy or positive images. Way older kids who seem to do A LOT of video gaming befriending younger kids.

    is good for everyone

gaia may have some adult content but parentscan also set up controls to block access to age restricted posts if your child is viewing something that you find "not suitable" then report it to gaia the admin would be more than happy to do something about it if you are paranoid then create an account and become there friend even if you use a "hidden identity" and talking about your problems is somthing you see in every type of forum on the net sometimes that person has no one else to talk to (ex. there parents dont care, they have no friends, etc.) somtimes its better to ask the opinion of a complete stranger because they are not bias

I think htis site is an excellent source of learning consumer content, a way to express individuality, creativity, and many other things without having the boundaries of peer pressure everywhere around them. Not only is this site a good way to express one self but also another way of connecting with friends or meeting new people from around the world with different backgrounds and what not.Yes this site is like any other site wher e you can show off your profile but is can be more than jus that. Its a revelutionary way to express, connnect and have fun.

Gaiaonline serves as an open community that gives people a chance to interact in a was not held down by the other activities of life. My younger sister I would not suggest to go on. But she is a child. I started on Gaia in 2003 I was 13ish. But the only thing parents have to worry about is if the children are going in over their head. There are a plethora of amazing things about Gaia, but it is not 100% safe for kids who don't know how to tell a person who is being iffy to leave or have the kid block the person. Besides that everything on there is fine. Kids are going to be subject to bad language and other things. Just trust that you have taught them well enough to know right from wrong.

Gaiaonline gives kids a chance to be themselves and meet people with similar interests. The gaia community is very open about a lot of things, good and bad. Aside from the forums where people can talk about anything, there is also fun games that are appropriate for almost all ages, and 'guilds' your kid can join about any topic you can imagine. It's also a fairly good dress-up site, but it does have a few risque things. Gaia is mainly geared toward ages 13+. They have a lot of optional filters so that if you do not want your kid to see swear words and bad images, you can set it so that it doesn't show those things. The gaiaonline moderators do their best to keep everything PG-13 or lower, and there are a lot of safety precautions.

    Perfect for 13+

I have been on the site since I have been sixteen years old. I don't think it is a bad place. There are some topics that are bad, sure, but the mods can not stop people from posting before they do it. The mods do, however, deal with anything that violates the ToS and PG-13 mandate in a timely and efficient manner. There are a lot of fun games there and the marketplace is a great way for kids to get the jist of economics. The events that are run can be very, very fun. Also, the site does help build a child's vocabulary and can even help them refine their opinions if they go to the right forums. Of course there is going to be swearing and some sexual references. That comes with a PG-13 environment! If you let your child on the site before the age of 13, then it is your own fault if they see something you don't think they should.

    Oh hush now.

Pitiful shame you feel the need to try to close a good site when putting up a block is easier. Gaia isn't a rotting cesspool as most some think and the cursing and such while it exists is normally not so bad as i've observed being a member there myself since '05. You can't tell people not to curse. You don't rule over them. My strong advice is suck it up and put up a block if you're so concerned about your children seeing the REAL world. Take away the sercuity blanket already, they'll learn it in school so you can't really stop it. Besides, you believe Miley Cyrus is any better of a role model for your kids? Ha! She sends nude pictures to her 'boyfriend' and it's obvious she's a whore. Kids will act more based on a celebrities' actions than a website so think hard. You want a child who knows about sex or one who screws everything in site for real?

    Arm your Children with knowledege

I've been a member of from near the beginning of the site and on some levels agree it is not for young children this being said it is not the fault of the site if your child starts an account with them. You as Parents should be teaching your children proper care and appropriate behavior. There are many ways to find web sites filled "sexual" connotation that doesn't mean you can ban them all. Gaia is an online community of writers and artists with a few perverts throne in, just like every over online community. The only way to protect your children is to arm them with the knowledge to protect them selves. There are even parental blocks you can put up if you are so opposed to your children participating in these sites. But you can't hide them for ever and they might find away around your rules so the best thing you can do is talk to them about what is out there instead of sheltering them from every thing. They need you to guild them and not let others do it for you.

    ehhh

i don't really use gaia for this and yea. If i was you DON"T GO ON THE FORUMS!! I mean if you use it for like for selling your old things then it okay but some topics are just revolting. I mainly go on for Zomg anyways. Games are kinda fun puzzles, fishing, pinball. I don't like towns though since people using bad language and topics. I find gaia boring, same as every other website only in cartoon/manga/anime style. Only the game Zomg makes it unique and the manga they make.

So if you do not chat in the forums, you are fine. Just use common sense for safety like you would for any other social networking site (do not give out personal information, passwords, etc.) There is plenty to do on the site, and it is pretty addicting!

for teens but not for tweens

I am 13 and I joined at age 11 or 12. I learned bad language and sexual things on there. But I never partook in cyber (cuz thats gross) but I learned bad language. But now I am 13 (still don't partake in cyber cuz once again gross) but I have lots of new friends and I learn to save up for items I want with my gold. and GaG (give a gift) is so heartwarming~ now I LOVE giving items! But be aware that your child could be exposed to stuff you don't want them to be. But you can still monitor their account. actaully you should.

Great socal networking site for advanced 13 year olds an 14+

I'm a 13 year old gaian myself and I'm just at the required age. however, I do belive that the age should be raised by one year do to certain content such as cybering and a very weak langusge filter and the occasional refrence to the users as "sexy". Overall, Gaia is a really fun place for teens to hang out, chat, meet others, and have fun.

    It's AWESOME!

There are sooooo many things you can do with it, I love it! The Gaia Cash problem is really annoying us. Gaia cash is fake pixellated money that you BUY WITH YOUR OWN SWEET CASH! Plus, some items are worth millions of gold(pixellated gold you have to earn) just because you have to buy it with cash! This makes us work ourselves hard for a month and only afford one awesome thing! Plus there is a way of earning Gaia Cash, but it causes viruses and SPAMS GALORE! The inappropariate thing is not a problem, just put the filter on high.

A real fun site, but logical reasoning is key.

Gaiaonline is a wonderful site, it really is, but have to admit, it's got a few iffy users on there. You might wanna steer clear of the Chatterbox forum, since that's where most of the bad stuff gets dumped off. There are tons of different forums through, to match your interests. Spammers and hackers might be a little abundant, but using your logic and keeping your password and info to yourself will prevent that from happening 9 out of 10 times. There are tons of games on Gaia, from puzzles to it's very own MMO. As for the consumerism, it's true, although I really enjoy dressing my avatar up as a out of this world fantasy character.

    13 and up fine

It teaches responsibility and money management because you have to save up for something you want... as long as the filter is on your fine. Also if you are leaving the site through a link on Gaia it will warn you which can help prevent getting viruses on computers

Gaia is really a good site as long as your kid knows some safety precautions such as filtering swear words and blocking people that just don't seem right. o.o One problem is that some Gaians can be really mean. Today I got some really vicious comments on my profile from a girl. I just deleted the comments and now I'm ignoring her. It's as simple as that.. I never really go to the forums so no comment there. If someone or something someone says is really threatening or uncomfortable, you can report them to site moderators and they will give the person a warning or ban the account. Gaia site moderators try to keep everything below a PG-13 level. Gaia is educational because it teaches you to save for things that you really want. For example, right now I'm saving to buy a dress for my dream avatar. Gaia does not force you to buy anything. Buying stuff for your avatar is an option most people choose. It's fun to express your creativity and personality. I think it's better for kids over 10 because even though Gaia has some really good safety precautions, it can still be kind of an iffy site unless you really trust your kid.

gaia's great if you trust your kid.

It's not a perfect site, i admit. But the reason i give it a 6+ is that with the filter on the kids can't read the swearwords, and what six year old is gonna click on a topic with something inapropriate? some of the topics on the forums make me uncomfortable, but those are the topics you just...ignore!!! or better yet, teach you child to be vocal about things that make them uncomfortable. if you ask someone to stop swearing, chances are they'll stop. plus, once you get to middle school you hear swearwords *constantly*, so kids shouls get used to it.

    Good for teens and up

I'm 13, and I have an account there. The sight does reference sexual topics in some threads, and you do talk some about personal things if you want to, but most kids using the site never even wander near those. I use the site to talk to friends, play games, and make a mini me. It's not really easy to get to the threads, and personal topics are generally reserved for people who really need to talk about stuff. "...will stumble upon...in a matter of minutes" Not true. I didn't even see they were there until my 3 week on the site, and I didn't look. Also, by middle school, you've heard all the "strong language" you'll come across. If you want to censor this site for strong language, you might as well just pull your kids out of school as well. Just make sure you talk to your kid a little about internet saftey, and they'll be fine.
