Parents need to know that this video-centric site does a great job encouraging kids to become environmentally conscious by having kid reporters explain how simple changes like taking shorter showers or using rechargeable batteries can help make our planet healthier. Google ads appear on each page, but stay on topic. The site is supported by Los Angeles Unified School District teachers and STAR Education, a California nonprofit.
Families can talk about environmental issues and the role of activism. Which changes in our lives are worth making? Can one person's behavior have an impact? How do we motivate others to change? What information from the site motivated you to do something different?

Ever wonder where balloons come from or how electric cars work? The GLOBALBROADCAST4KIDS.COM news crew explores these topics and more in an excellent series of short videos. It's like the Discovery Channel with a twist: The reporters are all kids. Sometimes they skip around or break into song, but they also get serious when tackling topics such as recycling and conservation. For older kids, there are more complex lessons on acid rain, CFCs, and smog. There's also a handful of so-so games and a "jukebox" featuring songs by one of the reporters. Some of the sections, like the video channel for teens, could use more content; other parts of the site are still under construction. Kids who are used to sophisticated graphics and flashy animation might find the design a bit dull. Still, the site's off to a great, green start.
Environmentally conscious kids might enjoy the puzzles and games on MeettheGreens.org and WebRangers.
