Why We Rated This on for Ages 5 and Up

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

Encourages reading (fiction and non-fiction) and an interest in foreign languages; the library's international collection exposes kids to different cultures, reveals the commonalities we all share, and encourages an interest in global issues.
  • Messages:

Fosters an interest in global awareness and different cultures. Focuses on positive messages like peace, tolerance, and reading.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Books are age-rated (like any public library) so some titles for older kids delve into more mature topics, such as war and disasters.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

Books are age-rated (like any public library) and bad language would only crop up in books for older kids and at a very minimum -- if at all.
  • Consumerism:

No ads. All external links are educational and kid-appropriate.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Books for older kids may touch on addiction or other similar issues, but this isn't the focus of the library's collection.

What Parents Need to Know

About Childrenslibrary.org

Parents need to know that this multicultural library features carefully selected, age-rated books and is completely kid-appropriate. Parents can rest easy -- the site doesn't have any interactive areas, and the nonprofit organization uses strict policies on privacy and external links to keep kids away from inappropriate content.
