What Parents Need to Know

About Kewlmag

Parents need to know that this is the online home for the tween magazine of the same name that launched in early 2007. The site is safe for kids, although it does focus on fluffy girl stuff. The language is clean, both on-site content itself, as well as in the user-supplied reviews. Kids have to register (under 13 need parental permission) to access all content. Banner ads are noticeable, and promote a variety of things -- from phone and banking services to fashion and downloadable emoticons.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the difference between the magazine and the site. Why would you want to go to a magazine's site as well as read the print version? What do you get out of writing reviews? Families can also talk about the value of material items such as clothes and accessories. Are these things really important to be liked and accepted?

Ive never seen a celeb teen site before that actually cared about things besides gossip. Kewl Mag doesnt really care. the interviews are about school and eating right, not really about boys. They talk about music and films and shows and green stuff. Zac Efron was up on their opening page on a vid talking about nrg lightbulbs. There have daily news and some of it is about celebs doing charity work. They have really fun celeb games too like the siblings. And the book reviews are great. The other mags never even talk about books and i love reading. Although i wish they had more book reviews. I read the cs review and i dont think that just talking about fashion means you only care about what people look like. that's dumb. i dont dress like a celeb and don't care too but can comment on clothes. it doesnt make me obsessed with fashion. it doesnt effect who i am and the mag doesnt say you have to dress a certain way to get friends. serisouly where do they come up with this stuff?,..
