Parents need to know that this safe educational resource is bigger and better than many other similar sites. You don't need to worry about the content of the organized, thorough homework section or the links to activities and educational games (geography quizzes and art projects, for example). Two caveats: A few areas of the site only work if you've got a NYC library card, and not all links are up to date.
Families can talk about why it's often better to go to a trusted site like the New York Public Library than to Google to find the best age-appropriate, reliable information. What are the benefits of having search engines and sites designed just for kids?

The famous NYC Public Library lions welcome kids, parents, and teachers into this gigantic online clearinghouse of high-quality reading and educational resources. In addition to being a catalog and events site for the area's libraries, the amazing KIDS.NYPL.ORG (note: no "www") is perfect for kids in need of some homework help. And, even though the homework section will be most useful for grade-schoolers and up, younger surfers will find stuff to do, too, such as coloring printable pages and reading interactive books. You'll also find staff book recommendations, and parents and kids will enjoy the extensive lists of educational links organized by subject (like science or art) and resources (homework help). A few links are out of date, and some areas require a NYC library card for access, but overall this site has the lion's share of great stuff for kids.
