What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Komatsu, one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction and mining equipment, sponsors the site.

What's it about?

Are you fascinated by big construction equipment like bulldozers, cranes, and dump trucks? Wish you knew more about them and could get all your questions answered? Look no further! Explore the "Great Picture Book of Construction Equipment." Choose "Friends of a Hydraulic Excavator" and learn about the parts of this humongous digging machine. Click to watch a short movie about how it moves and works, and even see the view from the driver's seat. In other parts of the site you can send a friend an electronic postcard featuring a super large wheel loader or an articulated dump truck. Download wallpaper and screensavers featuring -- you guessed it. Can you dig it?

Is it any good?

This is the greatest site on big machines ever. Friends of bulldozers, dump trucks, wheel loaders, and other equipment will not be disappointed.

That said, the site is not without its flaws. There could be better internal navigation within the site. Sometimes you get to a section that is a dead-end and you'll have to use your browser's back button to get anywhere else. And some parts of the English version of the site seem to suffer in translation, both of language and culture. The "Tower of Scoop" story, for example, is just, well, odd. Harmless, but odd -- it doesn't make a lot of sense.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about Web site navigation. What should kids do if they lose their way? Have they tried using the "back" button to retrace their steps? Have new pages opened up on top of where they started?
