    Hate It!

Any parent in their right mind would block their tweens and teens from using such a site, even for communication purposes with friends. There are young girls posing in lewd positions and clothing for pictures, some even faking their ages and getting attention from older males. I've even heard stories, from my 16 year old sister who frequents the site, that the site is basically one huge hookup spot for teenagers as you can find anyone based on having their personal email or full name! The movie "He's Not That Into You" says it all, "Myspace is the new booty call!". Too many ads, too many banners for singles sites and even the random disguised porn site. Applications aren't even real gaming!!!!! I'm a 28 year old mother of 2, I play Halo, I play rpgs, Myspace apps are NOT games! Plus there are apps like Pas A Drink, an app where you send a message to friend that highlights an alcoholic beverage. 17 year old kids with marijuana leaves as a background, silly usernames and the only good thing is the fact that artist's post content and even then it's at an R rating most of the time! Get off of Myspace! Play a video game, get a hobby, go outside and play hackey sack with a bunch of friends at the park, ride a bike, study and make something of yourself! friends will be there, maybe, when you are stable, secure and can pay your own internet bill!!!!!! It's also used as a cyber bullying tool. Did you hear about that young girl who killed herself because an older girl and that older girl's MOTHER, FAKED a boy's page and drove the girl to commit suicide?!? Seriously, Myspace either needs to monitor the site better or start acting socially resposible for the site they created, it's only THE largest mass member social site in the world! You would think they would be a little more social resposible. Nope, they're making money, they don't care. Ban Myspace!

It's ok, its just that there are too many perverts on there, safety isn't an issue if your kids do not give out personal information.

    Parent involvement is key

Myspace has good qualities and bad. If the contents are put in the right context for your children, I believe that myspace can be educational. Teens can express themselves through words and pictures (or emotocons and what not). This expressive behavior with no limit to their imagination can help keep teens from encountering an excruciating identity crisis during their adult years. Not to mention most people on myspace are NOT out to get your kids. They perhaps don't use the discretion a parent would want them to but by no means does this make them bad, or not an ounce educational. My personal opinion would be to monitor the site with your young children, say starting at 10 - 12, or when they become interested in the networking concept and help them understand things that they could take the wrong way if they attempted to interperet it by themselves. This will also show the parents how often someone tries to sabotage (hacking, spamming, inappropriate messaging) which isn't that often. The site also allows younger members to keep their profile private. which means you can not access the page unless the user adds you.

    50/50 Chance

I have a myspace and I use it to find my old friends from high school i lost contact with. But I have seen a lot of inappropriate things that kids shouldn't see. There are a lot of over age men trying to to get with little girls, people display page glamorizing alcohol and drug use, and display sexual behavior. Don't get me wrong some younger people don't abuse it and use myspace as a tool to talk to their friends and do promote good things.... It's just a 50/50 chance with Myspace users.

Like all things, parents need to be there and parent - That being said, do not have your child ever EVER put real information in the profile or give it out to anyone at all.

    • Safety is an issue

It's bad for ALL ages because it's not easy, in fact it was impossible for me, to CANCEL an account and there is NO online support! If you don't know your child's email address and password you can't retrieve their myspace password. And you cannot know that the information they provided in the account is safe to provide without being able to monitor it and/or cancel it. Read horror stories on the web (google search "cancel myspace"); some people have no problem & others do (like me) and parents/grandparents have the worst time of all.

Unless you're going to monitor your child's internet activity VERY closely, I would say this is a 14+ website.

    Myspace Is Awesome

Since this big thing going on about "MYSPACE" its actullay good way too talk to friends and family people say this and that but I say its Iffy but it is okay for at least a 11 year old because three simple things to do 1 set to private or have last name code 2 watch out for stalkers, spammers and hackers then your ppre teen or teen will be Alright on Myspace Facebook and any other social networking site

    MySpace is Parent-Friendly

At first, I was pretty hesitant about MySpace. But I have to say, MySpace is a great site. Not only have I been able to connect with my old friends and long lost family, I've discovered that the site and it's customer service is very parent-friendly. They seem to value parents' opinions and really cater to our worries, especially regarding the safety of my children. My daughter recently posted a couple pictures of herself on MySpace that I did not want her to put online. She was at the beach with her friends, and while harmless, you never know who could be looking at those pictures. So I emailed customer support, they asked me to call their Parent Care Hotline. I didn't even know they had a department for parents. I spoke with these two really nice people, and after answering questions to prove I was a real parent, they removed the pictures from my daughter's site without question. Knowing that I have some sort of control over my daughter's page really shows me that MySpace really respects and values me as a parent and genuinely cares about the safety of our children. So kudos to MySpace!

You have to be kidding me

They recommended this site to 17 year olds? Good lord, what is the world coming to. On myspace teenagers post nude pictures of themselves! Sex is an awful thing. There are also mean people on there, and children under 20 expose themselves? Awful just awful. Children need to be children not adults. Do not let anyone under 19 on this site. Good lord.

Great for the older teen but not for younger kids

Well I think that Myspace is a great website to meet other people and have fun I wouldn't think it should be for 8-13 year old people. That is just my opinion, maybe some people think differently about, maybe not. The main point is that you shouldn't let your younger kids get on it.

I don't really see a problem with this site. It gives us a chance to talk to our friends and we only add people we want usually for everyone it is just friends and for anyone who adds someone they don't know then sorry but you are really stupid. I like the site because I can talk to some of my friends that don't go to my school anymore because they moved or whatever. I understand all the parents concerns but it is honestly not a bad site and if you feel it not a good site for your kids then let them show what they do on this site or just don't let them have one just tell them you don't want them to be exposed to the things on the site. I do agree that older teens should be the only ones to have a myspace teens ages 14 and up i believe have enough sense what they should do and not do on the site. They also should be smart enough to be careful about what they tell people if they aren't smart enough for to do those things then I don't think they should have a myspace on a computer for that matter. Thanks for your time. :)

I like it but it can get too addicting so i just recommend you go on it like once or twice a week! Also don't get too many apps cause then you won't be able to go on all of them in one day...!!! Finally I don't recommend you to put pictures of yourself..unless people can like either not see you at all or can barely see you in the picture!!

I've never gotten around to using it that much, although it does seem to be a lil' on the iffy side considering it can contain content which parents may find innapropiate for their kids, mainly sexual content or innapropiate use of language. Another thing to be concerned about is that your child(if not watched carefully) may give out his personal information which could be bad for him/her in the long run, but, that's really up for you to decide ;)
