Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this site is a hub for sporting news from NBC that features some Sports Illustrated content, too. The only content that you might not want your kid to linger on are the photos and videos of the scantily dressed cheerleaders. Kids can find stats, scores, and videos clips from NBC sports shows (don't worry; any bad words are bleeped out). There are also news reports, writer blogs, expert commentary, and of course, a fantasy sports section.
Families can talk about what it takes to work in the field of sports. What do sports writers do? What are their days like? If you could cover a team, which one would it be and why? How does one become a professional athlete? What kind of hours must one log to become adept at a sport? Do you think it's as glamorous as it seems?

On NBCSPORTS.COM, fans can get the goods on their favorite teams and players, latest scores, and expert insight into the goings on of everything from the NBA to NASCAR. Parents wishing for rich, topical content can feel good about letting their kids log on because this heavy-hitter of a sports site offers a nice mix of hard news and features to keep kids entertained.
The main nav bar provides links to pages dedicated to every sport imaginable -- including baseball, basketball, hockey, NASCAR, tennis, golf, horse racing, and poker. There are also sections to read blogs by Sports Illustrated writers and popular NBC commentators such as John Madden. Users can click to find updates on local sporting teams and enter an area to buy NBC merchandise.
There are some unique-to-the-site sections providing fluffier fare: A gallery of NBA cheerleaders wearing their skimpy outfits; trivia games; shots of College players' homes, appropriately called "Campus Cribs"; and an entire fantasy sports section.
Kids who like this site might also want to check out the movie, The Year of the Yao or read the baseball book, Heat.
