What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is the online counterpart of the popular, long-running PBS show. You can watch videos and learn about the animals featured on the weekly show or head over to the "Animal Guides" for interactive games and quizzes and information about animals previously featured. From the site you can link to a store that sells nature-related videos and books, and also link to other PBS sites.

What's it about?

Each week the site features information and a limited number of beautiful videos that correspond to the show's theme. There's also a library of information in the "Animal Guides" -- from where a certain critter lives to what it eats. Many of the animal profiles also feature related episode links to see the animals in action. The site also offers games, quizzes, and animated educational interactives. You can dig underground to explore the world of the naked mole rat, or "Enter the Hive" to find out the buzz about the daily lives of bees.

Is it any good?

This terrific collection of interactive animal games, videos, and quizzes from the popular PBS series about natural history, Nature is a winner.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the animals they come across on the site. What's the difference between an alligator and a crocodile? What animals live in India's rainforests? What does it take to put together a dog sledding team? Families can also visit a zoo to see some of these animals in person.
