The good stuff

Members can vote on your doll -- the more votes you get the better your chance is to be on the cover of a virtual magazine.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

Skimpy thongs; one room had a man and a woman doll layingon a bed dressed only in their underwear.

  • Consumerism:

A few brand names have opened up shop on the site; members can buy their goods to wear online with earned Stardollars. Many Google ads, some with questionable content.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

This review of Stardoll.com (PaperdollHeaven.com) was written by Jean Armour Polly

Parents need to know that some of the dolls wear thongs and other skimpy underwear in this dress-up doll world. A few brand names have opened up shop on the site and allow users to buy their goods to wear online. Members can create personal profiles and chat with each other, but there are filters that catch the "bad" words. Kids can make their profiles private and also report any other members. There are also numerous small Google ads and some have mature content. Around the Usher doll, for example, was an ad asking users to vote on "Is Usher Gay?" Parents will also want to know that kids must register in order to get access to special dolls and can buy stuff to dress their dolls with earned Stardollars. You may also want to talk about setting time limits for this site -- it can be really addicting!

More on Stardoll.com (PaperdollHeaven.com)

What’s the Story?

Wanna dress up an online doll? More than 300 "paper dolls" are yours for the picking at STARDOLL.COM, including celebrity actors, singers, models, and lots more. Each doll has a lavish virtual wardrobe that can be clicked and dragged onto the doll to create outfits. The most popular dolls, though, are singers. Click on 50 Cent's name and you'll see a drawing of him stripped down to his boxers, tattoos, jewelry, and baseball cap. On the left, there are racks of tops, bottoms, and accessories you can mix and match. Besides dolls, there are makeovers: Click to select hair color, eye shadows, lipsticks, and other makeup. And there's a "History of Fashion" that's kind of fun. Also, kids can register as a member of the site in order to get access to special dolls. Members can create personal profiles and instant message each other; both are monitored.

Is It Any Good?

Young paper doll fans will probably enjoy this site. Be aware, though, that some of the dolls wear thongs and other very skimpy underwear. And then there's the "Doll House," which has some iffy content -- in one room, a man and a woman, dressed only in their underwear, were on the bed. It just looks and feels sort of creepy.

Stardoll is for people who are careful online.

I personaly kinda like stardoll. I have been on since 2007. It's a fun website at first. Before on the older versons of stardoll, you wouldnt have much of a problem. But now, people are meanner, nastier, and they think they are better then people. There are " bad " word filters, but they ont always work. People find newer ways to curse at people. They you @, $ an other stuff. The stardoll staff is beging to be unfair. They are giving more of the cooler things to " Supersatrs ". Superstars are people who paid to upgrade their accounts. Some are snobby, some are nice. But they raised the proces of the payments to become a superstar. I did it once iwth the phone payment. There are also gays, lesbos, and bi's that are on the site who talk dirt and make up many dirty stories. The get deleted, but they come back! Stardoll is fun, but if your gonna go on the site, DONT' BE STUPID!

I think stardoll is terrible and SOOO boring. All it is,is a doll wondering round a house doing nothing much than being stupid. I do not recomend it for anybody. Full stop.

    Addicting and Fun!

I love stardoll, I go on it every day and it is addicting... actually I go on it like 10 times a day and I'm on it right now. Just like ant website they do their best to keep it safe and appropriate, but some kids/adults manage to get stuff through, so I say as long as you are careful you'll be fine. * Personally, I have been on it for 2 years and I have run into 1 inappropriate thing and a little bit of language. But, I still love it! *

Fine for anyone that can handle a few perverted comments =]

I have a stardoll.com account myself, and I used to love it... before it got too popular and many perverted kids decided it would be fun to go and post nasty topics on the message boards. The company is very money-hungry, and they take away lots of different options to non-paying users. If you monitor your child's account and make sure there's no harrassment, your child will love this as much as I do. I love dressing up my little doll and selling my designed clothes! =] www.stardoll.com/member/mdlsklsweethrt

Adding to what I wrote before.

Kids under the age of 13 get a very safe account, that doesn't allow anyone to have any cntact with them unless the actual kids choose it.

I love stardoll. I go on it daily. Its addictive. You can design your own fashions, make new friends, have loads of famous brands. However, in the clubs it is so easy to just tell your personal details or swear. You can tell stardoll staff have tried to resolve this but, its still so easy. You cant type your email address or phone no. but if you put a space between the @ and a space between every 4 numbers, you can give info away. And swearing can be filtered through by 'áccénts' and xx's for example.. pxxp. But aslong as you know what your doing, and be safe, its a really good enjoyable site.

    Stardoll is a great website.

The person who wrote that is very wrong. Yes, they are hackers, and scammers and crap. Those things cannot be stopped. But stardoll have increased their account security, so now, no account can be hacked fully, since you need a confirmation from your old e-mail address to change it to another one on stardoll. And notice that if you go to "My settings", or whatever, you can see that they have removed the last name box, and I do not think they ask for it anymore when you sign up. Also, you can always report a bad behaviour when you see it, so, it is your own fault and not stardoll's if you get hurt at any way by it. And non-superstars have a very good start, they get clothes for free, furniture too, and they get 1 stardollar per day, and they can also use the "play & earn" for extra 5 stardollars.

    bad stuff here

have played this site for a year now and have learned SOOOO many things.....lets start with the BAD: hackers, many kids-teens can easiley be hacked many hackers go to youtube and post their knowladge on how to hack ?( theres many other ways)l okay now lets talked about those MEAN people,or scammers , i have been scammed 5 times its very frusterating so you have to watch out...... people also use bad/hurtful words to others...some act as if they were a gang, and when your not superstar people downrate you and some non-superstars will tel suerstars bad things about them.... now there is money envolved too....when your superstar and run out of money to buy thoose hot clothing you pay 10-20 dollars for fake mooney that literally takes u no where.... now the main concern parents need to see is the sexual content there are lesbian clubs where they talk about NASTY 18+ and older sexual stuff theres men who rite in their presintaion about havieng sex with other young ones on the site and there r gay guys too who call themselfs puffballs and other nasty comments to other boys. i recomend parents to surf that site and fnd bad stuff

ok for kids around the age of 10

well... when I was around the ages 10-11.... I LOVED this site... I thought it was the coolest thing..... and it is pretty cool but parents need to know.... in the first week of getting the stardoll account... they are gonna be asking you if you can pay money to be a superstar. I will not get into detail about superstars... but you get more money and clothes on there. There is a safety issue.... anybody can view your page and write or comment on your page.... there is also a chat on there so anyone can talk to you. over all it is a good site... there is celebs and more to dress up... a nd it is fun to design yourself!
