  • Common Sense says

Doll world entertaining, but some iffy content.

Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 12–13

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

    Not an issue.

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Members can vote on your doll -- the more votes you get the better your chance is to be on the cover of a virtual magazine.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

Skimpy thongs; one room had a man and a woman doll layingon a bed dressed only in their underwear.
  • Language:

Filters are on 24/7 and moderators troll the site for bad language. If someone write a "bad" word, stars appear in place of letters, but kids can get creative to get stuff through.
  • Consumerism:

A few brand names have opened up shop on the site; members can buy their goods to wear online with earned Stardollars. Many Google ads, some with questionable content.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Stardoll.com (PaperdollHeaven.com)

Parents need to know that some of the dolls wear thongs and other skimpy underwear in this dress-up doll world. A few brand names have opened up shop on the site and allow users to buy their goods to wear online. Members can create personal profiles and chat with each other, but there are filters that catch the "bad" words. Kids can make their profiles private and also report any other members. There are also numerous small Google ads and some have mature content. Around the Usher doll, for example, was an ad asking users to vote on "Is Usher Gay?" Parents will also want to know that kids must register in order to get access to special dolls and can buy stuff to dress their dolls with earned Stardollars. You may also want to talk about setting time limits for this site -- it can be really addicting!

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about dolls and playing online. Is playing with your virtual doll more fun than playing with your actual doll? How is interacting with other kids online different than interacting with them at school or other "real" places?

Fine for anyone that can handle a few perverted comments =]

I have a stardoll.com account myself, and I used to love it... before it got too popular and many perverted kids decided it would be fun to go and post nasty topics on the message boards. The company is very money-hungry, and they take away lots of different options to non-paying users. If you monitor your child's account and make sure there's no harrassment, your child will love this as much as I do. I love dressing up my little doll and selling my designed clothes! =] www.stardoll.com/member/mdlsklsweethrt

Adding to what I wrote before.

Kids under the age of 13 get a very safe account, that doesn't allow anyone to have any cntact with them unless the actual kids choose it.

I love stardoll. I go on it daily. Its addictive. You can design your own fashions, make new friends, have loads of famous brands. However, in the clubs it is so easy to just tell your personal details or swear. You can tell stardoll staff have tried to resolve this but, its still so easy. You cant type your email address or phone no. but if you put a space between the @ and a space between every 4 numbers, you can give info away. And swearing can be filtered through by 'áccénts' and xx's for example.. pxxp. But aslong as you know what your doing, and be safe, its a really good enjoyable site.
