Stardoll has become a jungle. The company does not monitor the site well and scamming is rampant. Parents should be aware of the contact kids are having with others on the site in order to protect them and keep them from getting taken advantage of my con artists. I'm an adult. I knew nothing about the site or any online game like this. When I joined, I didn't know anyone. I stumbled into another girl's suite and began to see that some people had lots of great stuff. Stuff I didn't have. New members don't get very much to start and I did not understand how much money some people put into their suites. I had some contacts with other girls that were strange. Some said nice friendly things. One new friend said she knew a secret and I could get really cool discontinued fashions and she could prove it to me when I went to her website. I checked it out. She said something about her brother creating code and he could put this code into my account, and all I had to do was give him my password. I know about photoshop, so I was not fooled by the images on her site. My gut feeling told me something was fishy. I removed the girl from my friend list and blocked her. I had not been warned about scammers and hackers on the site, but I figured out what was going on. Since then I found out this scammer fooled many girls, girls that weren't able to figure out what was going on. Girls who were too distracted by the promise of something for nothing to pay attention to their feelings. Even when girls are very young they can tell when people are lying to them if they pay attention. Tell you kids "Don't let yourself get distracted by warm fuzzy feelings or promises." Many of my new friends took advantage of me and told me lies. One girl told me it was her birthday, so I went to her suite and gave her a nice gift. Later that day, I looked in her guestbook and she was bragging about how she tricked me! That made me feel bad. I wrote her a note saying I did not want to be friends with a liar and then blocked her. When a girl wants to steal from you, she will say anything. She will say that everyone uses "cheats." She will say she has references that the new member can check. I have checked many "references" to find that they are either other scammers, other accounts belonging to the same scammer, or accounts that the scammer has already stolen from other girls. Girls pay to be superstars. They pay for stardollars to buy stuff. That is how this site works. There are lots of things that are free, but the coolest stuff is reserved for the girls who spend money here. And without them spending money, this site could not exist. And some girls spend hundreds of dollars. Stardoll does not like that girls think it is okay to steal from them. When she agrees to get in on a "cheat" that is what she is trying to do. When she gives someone her password or changes her email so that she can get free stardollars or something else of value, she us agreeing to participate in a crime. So when she get scammed, Stardoll is not happy with having to help her, since she is not much better than the scammer. At that point, they are both thieves. When I hear that someone has been scammed, I feel sympathetic. I think she should get help to get her account back. I know how easy it is to be tricked by someone with more experience on the site. Someone who is a clever liar. But I feel sad when the scammed person starts to lie instead of just owning up to her own part in what happened. Stardoll knows what happened when she got scammed. But most scamming would stop if Stardoll enforced the rules. Most girls would never have even thought of stealing from Stardoll if they had not been approached by a scammer. Allowing scammers on the site makes it Stardoll's fault. I think the practice of blaming the victim should stop and Stardoll should take responsibility for what they have allowed to happen. This is about kids. Kids that are not getting enough guidance as they navigate thru the shark-infested environment that this company has fostered by not adopting a no-tolerance rule about scammers. Some kids shoplift, but not many. Because they know that there are serious consequences for getting caught. Most kids are basically honest. They know the difference between right and wrong. Stardoll does run ads that say things like "cheats do not work." But they do not communicate the message that a "cheat" is not a clever secret, it is an offer to participate in stealing from the website. Girls who get scammed are probably angry at Stardoll for not protecting them. Some girls have a lot of character, they get over the anger, admit honestly what happened, learn from it and move on. Other girls want sympathy for getting scammed but are ashamed and secretive about how it happened. And some take the experience, turn around and start scamming other girls. If things continue in this way, this site has the potential to be a place where many girls could start on a path to becoming career criminals. It may seem these crimes are only virtual, but stardollars are bought with real money. Scammers should be prosecuted and punished for their crimes. Speaking of crimes. There are predators on Stardoll. This is what I tell any girl that asks me: "You won't know that when you first meet one. She will seem to be just like you. She will make you feel special. Over time, she will ask for bits of your personal information. Do not tell anyone your real name, where you live or your phone number." One predator said she was casting "The Suite Life" and wanted girls to mail photos to her. Real casting agents don't do that. This predator was not a casting agent and was probably a man. And a really good liar. There are scary people on this site who are dangerous. I tell girls "If anyone writes anything to you in dollmail or chat that makes you feel uncomfortable, do not ignore your feelings. Take a screen shot so you will be able to remember exactly what happened, and so you can show it to others. And even though you may not want to, you must tell your mom or dad. They will want to help you and if need be, protect you. Let them." From this, you would think I don't like this site. I do. I like the women I have met (there are a lot of adult women on Stardoll, and we would prefer the kids leave us alone. We are having fun. It is a great creative outlet and fun social contact. I have gotten to know other women like me all over the world. I am one of many adult members who are taking steps to force the management at Stardoll to make safety a priority. The best thing parents can do right now is to be aware of the problems and provide supervision for each child as she plays on the site.

A must-read book for every 10005 year old
This website is extremely stupid and broing. All you do is dress up dolls. It is EXTREMELY inappropriate for ages 20 and under for girls and ages 80 and under for boys. You get my point, dont let your kids play it. You can see girl's bras and panties. INAPPROPRIATE!!!!!!! I AM GOING TO START AN ANGRY MOB AND BURN THE MAKER AT STAKE!

non filtering of sexual content and user names
i have 2 girls that have stardoll accounts,so do i.i have recently come across user names and clubs that have very explicit content in them.such filth should be filtered out by the staff.i have spent countless hours reporting users.

Stardoll customer service/security non-existent
Parents need to know that offers to buy/sell or trade accounts are rampant on this site. Some parts of the site cost money. Kids also tell other kids that if they let them "Log in" to their account they can get them free star dollars. There is no security check to stop someone from changing the accounts email (and thus gaining control of the account) and if you email customer service, they don't reply.

terrible site- no parental consent
They allow kids to post information without getting parental consent. I also find a sexual message that isinappropriate. this site should be closed as children are easy prey.

Fine for anyone that can handle a few perverted comments =]
I have a stardoll.com account myself, and I used to love it... before it got too popular and many perverted kids decided it would be fun to go and post nasty topics on the message boards. The company is very money-hungry, and they take away lots of different options to non-paying users. If you monitor your child's account and make sure there's no harrassment, your child will love this as much as I do. I love dressing up my little doll and selling my designed clothes! =] www.stardoll.com/member/mdlsklsweethrt

Adding to what I wrote before.
Kids under the age of 13 get a very safe account, that doesn't allow anyone to have any cntact with them unless the actual kids choose it.

I love stardoll. I go on it daily. Its addictive. You can design your own fashions, make new friends, have loads of famous brands. However, in the clubs it is so easy to just tell your personal details or swear. You can tell stardoll staff have tried to resolve this but, its still so easy. You cant type your email address or phone no. but if you put a space between the @ and a space between every 4 numbers, you can give info away. And swearing can be filtered through by 'áccénts' and xx's for example.. pxxp. But aslong as you know what your doing, and be safe, its a really good enjoyable site.

Stardoll is a great website.
The person who wrote that is very wrong. Yes, they are hackers, and scammers and crap. Those things cannot be stopped. But stardoll have increased their account security, so now, no account can be hacked fully, since you need a confirmation from your old e-mail address to change it to another one on stardoll. And notice that if you go to "My settings", or whatever, you can see that they have removed the last name box, and I do not think they ask for it anymore when you sign up. Also, you can always report a bad behaviour when you see it, so, it is your own fault and not stardoll's if you get hurt at any way by it. And non-superstars have a very good start, they get clothes for free, furniture too, and they get 1 stardollar per day, and they can also use the "play & earn" for extra 5 stardollars.

ok for kids around the age of 10
well... when I was around the ages 10-11.... I LOVED this site... I thought it was the coolest thing..... and it is pretty cool but parents need to know.... in the first week of getting the stardoll account... they are gonna be asking you if you can pay money to be a superstar. I will not get into detail about superstars... but you get more money and clothes on there. There is a safety issue.... anybody can view your page and write or comment on your page.... there is also a chat on there so anyone can talk to you. over all it is a good site... there is celebs and more to dress up... a nd it is fun to design yourself!

IFFY
You can easily get hacked/scammed and you can get through the filters. And there is a competition which picks the best "covergirl". If you aren't an SS member (someone who pays) you often get shunned. It is quite fun though other than those things, but I got hacked two times & scammed 3. Most people get hacked or scammed. Take caution to let your children play on this site, they will be addicted to it then be sad when something happens.

Not a good site.
I would not reccomend using this website.Lots of the dolls have very Inappropriate clothing, The users have a "page", and often users use bad language (it is filtered, but only covers the language with those little stars (*). I think the site can make girls focus to much on whats "in style" and clothes instead of what really matters. My experience with the site was not good because i was also cyberbullied. If i were you, i would not use this website.

A Great Site
This is a great site but even though people have said it is, it s not all about dressing up dolls! If you sign up for an account you can make your own profile and much more like making new friends. There are different privacy controls so those of a younger age can take a safer option. You can pay to get additional things on the site but even if you don't there is a lot to do! It is great fun and I recommend t, I love it.

By The Way...
Forgot to add, this website isn't about dressing up dolls. Not at all. Just a caramel with a gooey centre. You discover it when taking some time getting to know the webite from blogs etc. When there's gossip included, not for under 11 years.
