Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this hub for Seuss fans has a decent amount of simple games for kids (although they do know how to read as most of the short instructions don't have any voiceover). There's an entire section -- that looks like very similar to the other sections of the site -- with outside links to places to buy Seuss things, but there is no marketing or ads to be found.
Families can talk about the phenomenon of Dr. Seuss. Why do you think his work is so popular? So you think all the books, DVDs, movies, toys, clothing, etc. is too much? Does the merchandising take away from the joy of the stories, or does it make them more accessible?

Besides learning about Dr. Seuss' life story, exploring a catalog of all his books and DVDs, and learning about upcoming Seuss-related events, SEUSSVILLE.COM is most notable for its games -- matching games, cute word scramble games, and collecting item games. The printables section has some offline coloring fun, and whatever you do, don't miss "Seussville Storymaker" where you select backgrounds, characters, music, and type in dialog to make a three scene "movie."
The first thing to look for when you come to this site is the "Music On-Off" switch (find the The Cat in the Hat) and turn it off when you can't take listening to the looped carnival-eqsue music any longer (about 30 seconds). While the site looks inviting and promising, once you get past the the colorful cartoon design and the games, there really isn't much to it. (The biography is thorough, but all that text won't hold the attention of little ones for too long). It's probably better to pick up one of Seuss' beloved books instead.
