What’s the Story?
Nothing says education like Smithsonian, and with areas designed specially for kids, students, and families, the Smithsonian's site offers a great way to explore the institution's extensive collections and research. The kids' area doesn't cover everything at the Smithsonian, but there's much to do and learn across four categories: Everything Art, Science & Nature, History & Culture, and People & Places. Like the museum, the emphasis is on learning through audio and visual presentations and interactive areas, games, and other activities.
Is It Any Good?
Overall, this is a stellar learning site with loads of world-class content and fun activities, but parents should know that age ranges aren't provided for the many activities and interactive areas. From learning how to think like an inventor to creating a personalized Puerto Rican carnival mask, this site promises to keep curious kids coming back for more. Kids should find it easy to navigate most of the site; some sections require plug-ins, opening files, and printing.
